AQR, Unit 1: Analyzing Numerical Data

Our Learning Goals: We will…

 use proportions and the fundamental counting principle to estimate large numbers.

 understand and interpret aspect ratio in various settings.

 use proportional reasoning to solve problems involving ratios, such as changing tires and selecting televisions.

 calculate and interpret weighted averages and weighted sums.

 determine check digits for UPCs and credit card numbers, while analyzing errors that make occur with these numbers using the check digit method.

Why do we study this?  Proportional reasoning and basic numerical calculations – such as ratios, rates, and percent – can be applied to settings in business, media, and many other areas of life. We learn in depth how to analyze information in order to make decisions in everyday situations.
