POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Details:

Title: Asian Mental Health Co-ordinator Department: Mental Health

Reports to: Clinical Director Location: TBA Manager, CMHC’s ADHB Asian MH Steering Group

Date: August 2005

Purpose of Position:

To work collaboratively with the Mental Health Services, CMHC trans-cultural service and Asian service users to co-ordinate access to culturally appropriate assessment and resources necessary to promote recovery

Key Accountabilities:

1. Coordinate access to culturally appropriate consultation and or assessment in conjunction with other clinical staff  Access appropriate personnel as indicated  Conduct assessments if appropriate  Facilitate appropriate cultural assessments, as required, in conjunction with clinical assessments

2. Co-ordinate effective clinical interventions  Participate in initial multidisciplinary team assessments as available

3. Facilitate improved access to Mental Health services, NGO’s and other service linkages for clients with Asian backgrounds  Develop collaborative care plan with service user and multidisciplinary team  Review plan progress with service user, family /carers and MDT as appropriate  Revise collaborative care plan as needed

4. Ensure appropriate members of the community and hospital services are involved in the delivery of care through collaboration, co-operation and communication  Liase with family/ carers and Community Mental Health team  Arrange and set agenda for meetings with family /carers and Community Mental Health team, inpatient Care Coordinators, or other teams as relevant  Review previous records  Document meeting outcomes and circulate to all parties

5. Co-ordinate effective clinical interventions  Participate in multidisciplinary team decision-making as appropriate

6. Contribute to the continuous quality improvement of the service  Develop resources to support the team  Participate in quality planning and implementation  Participate in quality projects as required Asian Mental Health Co-ordinator August 2005 Page 1 of 3  Participate in own professional development and supervision  Staff training to increase cultural awareness & support for work with Asian clients

Experience/Knowledge  Acute Mental Health  Experience in care co- experience (minimum 3 ordination years)  Community Key Worker experience.

Asian Mental Health Co-ordinator August 2005 Page 2 of 3 1 Clinical Ability with Demonstrated skills and experience in assessment, Knowledge of main Asian formulation and co-ordination of a range of treatment cultures interventions in mental health settings. Knowledge of current relevant therapeutic models and relevant legislation and professional guidelines. Experience of working with Asian groups in a MH setting 2 Service User Focus Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with service users integrating recovery principles into practice.
