Chris Sherer Named Among Top Family Lawyers In Illinois

SPRINGFIELD – Attorney Chris Sherer, partner at Giffin, Winning, Cohen & Bodewes, P.C., has been named as one of the Top 100 Family Lawyers in Illinois for 2016 by the American Society of Legal Advocates (ALSA). He was previously designated by ALSA as one of the Top 40 Under 40 Family Lawyers in the State of Illinois for 2014 and 2015.

The ASLA is an invitation-only, nationwide organization of elite lawyers, drawing its membership from practicing attorneys who combine stellar legal credentials with a proven commitment to community engagement and the highest professional standards. The ALSA selects less than 1.5% of all licensed lawyers in the United States for membership. In selecting its member attorneys through a rigorous, manual, multi-stage review process, the ASLA chooses up to 100 lawyers (and 40 lawyers under the age of 40) per state for every practice area or specialty that is designated for that state. Those admitted into the exclusive organization were selected by a team of lawyers who spent months researching tens of thousands of potential candidates throughout the nation.

Chris joined the prominent downtown Springfield law firm Giffin, Winning, Cohen & Bodewes, P.C. as an associate in 2004. Chris concentrates his practice in the area of Family Law, including divorce, child custody, parenting time (“visitation”), child support, property division, post-divorce disputes (modification and enforcement), and orders of protection. In addition, he practices in the areas of Local Government Law, Election Law, and Civil Litigation and Appeals. Chris has also represented more than 25 counties throughout the state as a Special Assistant State’s Attorney in matters before administrative agencies, circuit courts, the appellate courts, and even the United States Bankruptcy Court.

Outside of the office, Chris devotes a substantial amount of his free time to the community. He has served his hometown as a volunteer firefighter with the Hillsboro Fire Department since 2003 and as a member of the Hillsboro City Council from 2007 through 2015. He currently serves on Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors and on the Coordinating Council for Imagine Hillsboro. Since May of 2015, Chris has staffed his firm’s satellite office on Main Street in Hillsboro. More information about Chris and his firm can be found at http://www.giffinwinning.com.
