TOPIC: Meeting Aerospace Industry Challenges in a Changing World

SPEAKER: Dr. Nashed Youssef DATE: Thursday January 29, 2009 Meet and greet: 6:00 p.m. Talk start at 6:30 p.m. LOCATION: Carleton University Mackenzie Building Room 4499 Building ME on the Carleton map at http://www.carleton.ca/cu/campus/. Park in Parking Lot #2$ off Campus Avenue. You must pay your parking fee at a machine on the lot that accepts one- and two-dollar coins as well as credit cards. It is advisable to pay until 930 pm.

There is little doubt that the world will look very different in 2030 from the way it looks today. The aerospace industry will be compelled to keep up with the pace of change – and perhaps to take on a leadership role in certain areas. The presentation highlights challenges and opportunities in the aerospace industry and will offer some predictions for the next decade. Key issues such as oil supply vs. demand, the environment, globalization and the world economy and their impact on aerospace product support and renewal will be discussed. Future trends will be illustrated with examples from the most recent product developments at Pratt & Whitney.

Nashed Youssef is President of the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute (CASI) for the 2008-09 term. Nashed is Manager of Advanced Engineering at Pratt & Whitney Canada in Mississauga, Ontario. He is a Fellow of CASI, and a Senior Fellow in United Technologies Corporation. A Ph.D. graduate in Mechanical Engineering, University of Manitoba, he also holds a B.Sc. degree in Applied Mathematics and a M.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Nashed is a registered professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and member of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering. He holds several patents related to gas turbine engines.
