CLASS POLICY

Every student can learn math. It is my belief that all students have the right to learn in the best environment possible. I also believe that every person is responsible for his or her actions and will be held accountable. It is my goal to maintain a learning environment of mutual respect, free of criticism and fear.

HOMEWORK

Homework will be assigned and collected almost daily. ABSOLUTELY NO LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. Math is a subject that builds upon itself. The tools and skills covered in each lesson needs to be practiced to be mastered. As a student, you need to continually ask yourself, "Do I understand what I'm doing? Why am I doing it and what information is needed to use this method?" If you can answer these questions for each topic covered, your grade will take care of itself.

You need to plan to spend time everyday on your homework. There may be problems that seem unusually difficult. In this case, you need to write down what you know, what you have tried, and the questions you will ask me the next day that will get you going on the problem. If you have shown this effort, and written this information on your homework page, I will grade it according to your effort and your explanation.

Label the top right hand corner of each assignment:

First and Last Names Class title and Period# Homework#, Page # and Problem #'s

Homework is graded on completion. Each problem must be documented. Important information must be copied down and work must be shown. Do not use answer column. The problem, the work, and the answer should all be shown neatly together.

Assignments, which are turned in on time, with documentation on every problem, and have over 70% correct, will receive 5 out of 5 points. Assignments that are turned in after the due date, due to excused absences, will receive 5 out of 5 points IF the student corrects the paper and verifies that they received a 70% or better. Assignments turned in late (after the class has corrected it together) will not be accepted.

Interactive Textbook can be accessed on https://www.bigideasmath.com/LAUSD/ using universal LAUSD login.

Homework is posted on school website www.jfkcougars.org.

BEHAVIOR/ATTITUDES Students are expected to be present at the start of class and ready to work each day. All members of the class are expected to be polite and considerate of both their classmates and the teacher. Students who have problems in class will lose participation credit for the day. If the problem more serious or continues after a warning is given the student can expect a call home. Students who continue to act out will be referred to the office. Reminder: ABSOLUTELY NO CELL PHONES ON UNLESS PERMITTED BY ME. In case your cell phone is noticed, it will definitely be taken away. Parents will have to make an appointment with the principal to retrieve them.

COURSE REQUIREMENT

Students are expected to attend all class meetings in accordance with school policy. Students are required to bring all materials, supplies to class (pencils, notebooks, loose leaf paper, pens). Geometry students must carry protractor and compass in addition to regular supplies. Students are expected to participate in class discussions and to complete all assignments (homework, worksheets, quizzes, tests, projects, labs, etc.).

SPIRAL or COMPOSITION Notebooks are required for the class. All notes, classwork, warm-ups, practices and handouts given must be in the notebook in chronological order, must be neat, contain no graffiti, or notes from any other subject.
