SHKP, Wharf and Henderson to build world-class development in Chengdu
Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP), the Wharf Group and Henderson Land today (July 11) announced plans to develop a major integrated residential and commercial complex on a prime site on Dongda Avenue in Chengdu. The developers’ solid foundations and extensive experience will ensure that the project meets world-class standards.
Wholly-owned subsidiaries of the three developers signed a joint venture agreement today. SHKP holds a 40% stake and Wharf and Henderson 30% each.
Large-scale integrated complex The Dongda Avenue development will be on a prime site in Jinjiang District in Chengdu bounded by Shuanggui Road, Niusha Road, Erhuan Road and Shahe. The gross floor area will be over 13 million square feet. There will be an office tower of over 280 metres rivaling the prestigious Two IFC in Hong Kong, a five-star hotel, high-end shopping centre with international retailers and residences. The project will meet the needs of multinationals needing top office space, discerning businesspeople and travellers looking for premium accommodation.
Solid foundation and experience SHKP has a solid reputation and extensive experience in premium developments. The decision to enter into the Dongda Avenue joint venture shows SHKP’s confidence in the prospects for Chengdu. Wharf also is well versed in property development in Chengdu, while Henderson is actively expanding on the mainland with full confidence in Chengdu and the southwest of China. This strong combination is sure to create a project with international appeal.
Prime site with easy accessibility The Dongda Avenue area has a concentration of commercial, retail and financial service elements in sectors ranging from banking and insurance to securities, investment funds, trusts and more, along with related professional services like law firms, valuers, accountants, consultants and more.
A number of five-star hotels are planned for Dongda Avenue to add a tourist aspect to the financial dimension. The area has good transport connections with the city’s number 2 subway line under construction and a number 9 line proposed to connect Dongda Avenue and commercial areas nearby. The new tourism and transport infrastructure will transform Dongda Avenue into a vibrant financial centre appealing to multinationals and global financial giants.
