8-week class OT 055B INTERMEDIATE KEYBOARDING
Lessons 81-83; 85-92; & 96-100
Welcome to the second part of Intermediate Keyboarding. Now that you have learned business document formatting and production, you will improve your Office Technology skill by producing more advanced business documents. You will improve the skill of Touch Typing by increasing your speed and accuracy. The book contains the standard business document formats in a reference manual in the front of the book—pages R-3 to R-14.
The knowledge and confidence gained in this program should help you achieve success in your future endeavors. Remember we are here to help you so be sure to ask for help from us when you need it.
ATTENDANCE
Attendance is mandatory for class. Lab is available in Room 502 during posted lab hours. Additional time outside of class time is required to successfully complete this course.
Your grade will be affected by your attendance.
Student Learning Outcome—Demonstrate mastery of alpha and numeric typewriting keyboard in the keyboarding of correspondence, manuscripts, and compositions under timed conditions with established accuracy standards using proper techniques.
OBJECTIVES
General Objectives
1. To complete Lessons 81-83; 85-92; & 96-100 using proper technique and posture.
2. To build speed and accuracy.
3. To learn more advanced Word 2013 functions.
4. To learn more advanced documents, such as international formatting, formal report project, medical & legal documents.
5. To learn language arts skills.
6. To refine your skills in completing documents.
Performance Objectives 1. Student will produce business, medical, and legal documents in standard formats. Complete documents and Progress Reports and hand in to be graded on accuracy & formatting. 2. To build keyboarding speed and accuracy student will be performing speed and accuracy tests. 3. Student will take an objective test on the office technology content learned in this course and a production test on documents learned in this course to be graded on accuracy and formatting. 4. You will take timing tests and will be graded on speed and accuracy.
2 SUPPLIES NEEDED
You must purchase the following book(s):
Gregg College Keyboarding & Document Processing-11th Edition by Ober, Johnson, Zimmerly Lessons 61- 120 and Microsoft Office Word Manual 11e (If you don’t already have manual).
Online Software Student Registration Card Code (purchased with book or separate.)-This code is good for 2 years. (If you don’t already have code). Flash Drive for saving your work.
GRADING Completion of Daily Assignments & Documents 30%
When completing word processing assignments, do them as efficiently as possible. High productivity is required of all Office Technology professionals.
Documents are graded on the following two factors:
1. Accuracy – Documents must be free of errors.
2. Format – Documents must be in standard business format. The GDP system does not score any formatting errors. Make sure you refer to your reference manual in front of book for correct formatting of document.
Objective Test...... 10%
45-50 90% = A 40-44 80% = B 35-39 70% = C 30-34 60% = D Production Test ...... 20%
Five-Minute Timings —5 errors allowed. (3 required)...... 30% (Scores are recorded from Lessons 96, 98, & 100)
45+ = A 40-44 = B 35-39 = C 30-34 = D
Attendance is mandatory—attendance will affect your grade)...... 10%
3 BEGINNING OF CLASS PROCEDURES
1. Log in on the Attendance Computer and Sign the sign-in sheet.
2. Sit in your assigned seat during class. During lab you can sit anywhere in Room 502.
3. Place your syllabus and book on the document stand.
4. Log on to GDP and work through lessons using proper technique.
5. Read all directions. (Be sure to ask for help if the syllabus is not clear). Complete lessons in the order listed in this syllabus.
END OF CLASS PROCEDURES:
1. Exit GDP program by clicking on the x in the upper right hand corner. 2. 3. Log out on the Attendance Computer.
DAILY INSTRUCTIONS
Keep your eyes on the copy (look at your book, not at the keys.)
Your fingernails must be short. The proper technique is to key with your fingertips and you cannot do that if your nails are too long.
Cell Phones—Must be turned off or on vibration. If you need to answer you cell phone please do so in the hallway outside of the classroom. Cell phone must be put away and not out on the desk.
Food/Drinks—No food allowed in room. You may have a closed bottle of plain water only.
Breaks—Please take a break as needed.
WARNING: You are expected to complete your own assignments. You may not copy from others into your program. You will not receive a grade for any assignments copied from others and your grade could be lowered. Academic honesty is expected. SCC’s policies will be enforced.
