You will work 21.6 hours (3 days) per week on a fixed term contract for 12 months. The Education Safeguarding Service works with schools and families to ensure every child of statutory school age in Somerset accesses their full educational entitlement. This is achieved by taking action where necessary to secure regular attendance at school or monitoring and challenging Elective Home Education where necessary. The Education Safeguarding Service also have responsibility for tracking children missing from education and providing a licensing service for children in entertainment and chaperones. About the job You would be part of a busy team of Education Safeguarding Officers. The role would include holding a caseload and an allocation of schools, advising and supporting schools, parents and students to find solutions to resolve complex cases. Using specialist knowledge, you will build, maintain and develop good working relationships with attendance leads, Head Teachers, and other services/professionals concerned with the welfare and education of children. You will convene and chair meetings with parent/carers, pupils and schools and lead criminal investigations using statutory powers. We currently have several Family Intervention Worker vacancies, working across our Family Intervention Service (FIS), with families and children (from birth onwards), with much of our work being in families with children of secondary school age upwards. Using a strengths-based approach, our workers ‘get alongside’ families to help them identify what it is they want to change and why, and then build sustainable family plans for change. We support families along the journey of change and are there to help them celebrate their successes. Our early intervention also helps us to identify children and young people who may be at risk of missing from home episodes, working with them and their families to help them stay safe and reduce the risks of family breakdown. About the job You will be paid an additional £1.62 for each hour worked on a Saturday and Sunday and a Standby payment of £30 when you are rota'd to work a specified early or late shift. Family Intervention Workers (FIW) support children, young people and their families and act as a keyworker in helping families to identify their strengths and challenges, and what could make the difference to them in achieving their very best family outcomes. FIWs support a family in developing an action plan, and then in making the changes identified. FIWs work alongside families, so out of hours, evening and weekend working is necessary, on a rota basis. FIWs also take part in an on call overnight crisis support service (Rapid Response) which aims to keep children and young people at home at times of crisis. These positions will be based in Shepton Mallet but with an expectation of being flexible to work in any area of the county subject to service needs.
