Assignment #3

1. Open MS Access by double clicking on the program shortcut.

2. On the “Getting Started” page, label your database “MOVIES.”

3. Click on “Create.”

4. Now, create a new table using the following steps:

a. In the Database window (at the left side of the page), click Table 1 under Objects.

b. Click Design View.

c. Rename Table 1 TOP TEN MOVIES.

5. Now we will define our field names and Data Types

6. Now go to Datasheet View and enter the data for each record as shown. (Note: It is not necessary to enter any commas or dollar signs.)

Adjust the field name column widths as necessary.

8. Re-save the table by clicking “File” > “Save.”

9. Carefully proofread your work for accuracy.

10. Now, create a report by clicking on the Report tool in the Reports toolbar. Note: Tables are not intended for printing in Access. Reports are normally used for this purpose instead.

12. Right click on the day and date field, then click Properties. Next, click on the Format tab. Highlight the words Long Date and replace them with your name in quotes. (For example: “Student Name”)

13. Right click on the time field, then click Properties. Next, click on the Format tab. Highlight the words Long Time and replace them with your class period in quotes. (For example: Period 1”)

14. Now, click on the blank record at the bottom of the table and hit the delete key or backspace to delete it.

15. Now click on View, then Print Preview. Change the page layout to landscape. Your report should look like this. (Note: If the columns are not wide enough for the numbers, simply click on Layout View, and pull the columns to the proper width.)

16. Now print a copy of the TOP TEN MOVIES report, and place it in the turn-in box.
