Responsible To: CEO

Responsible For: Fundraising Team –Events Fundraiser, Fundraising Assistant

Hours: Monday – Friday, 9am to 5pm (Part time hours considered, please provide details)

Salary: £30,000 - £38000 depending on experience

Contract: Permanent

Purpose of the Job

Responsible for the development and implementation of MS-UK’s fundraising strategy

Providing leadership for all fundraising activities and meeting agreed targets, through a variety of sources including events, community fundraising, direct donations, trusts and any other sources that may become available

Member of the management team working together to deliver the overall strategic plan for the charity and deliver day to day leadership and operations

Main Responsibilities

Develop and ensure the successful implementation of MS-UK’s fundraising strategy in line with the charity’s overall strategic plan

Work with the CEO to define clear annual fundraising targets Project manage and administer fundraising initiatives throughout the year, including liaising with agencies and participants, agreeing contracts, managing budgets, organising travel and accommodation as required

Plan, organise and attend the Virgin Money London Marathon exhibition and our post-race reception, overseeing these projects from start to finish

Identify, develop and maximise leads and opportunities for new fundraising initiatives, particularly to diversify income

Exercise personal and professional judgment in selecting appropriate fundraising relationships

Build strong relationships with supporters and provide a high level of stewardship to existing and new donors, providing support and advice to fundraising participants

Contribute to and oversee the production of our fundraising communications including blogs, newsletters and articles for our magazine, with support from our Marketing Manager

Create and implement communication and engagement plans for supporters and donors

Give presentations to various audiences

Recruitment, supervision, appraisal and development of fundraising staff

It is a requirement of the position to remain flexible within your role and to operate across other roles as business needs require for example, to provide cover when other members of the team are unavailable.

A willingness to be involved in the wider work undertaken by MS-UK is required.

You will be expected to attend fundraising and marketing events as and when required. This will involve occasional weekend or evening work.

You must comply with our internal policies and procedures eg. Health and Safety Policy.

Certificate in Fundraising Management desirable

Knowledge, understanding and experience of all types of fundraising

Experience of managing and planning successful mass participation events

Excellent organisation and project management skills

Proven track record in hitting income targets

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to organise, motivate and empower teams and individuals

Ability to build good working relationships internally with the fundraising team and management team, and also externally

Excellent communication skills – to write engaging copy for newsletters/ blogs/ literature and to individuals as part of ongoing stewardship

A strong understanding of team work, particularly in a small organisation

Ability to budget and forecast income and expenditure

Computer literate with great database skills

Able to demonstrate empathy for the issues faced by people affected by MS

A supportive people manager committed to the development and wellbeing of their team

Flexible, enthusiastic, a natural motivator
