Smith, Sottile, Spires, 19 Stavrinakis, Stringer, Tallon, Taylor, Thayer, Toole, Tribble, Vick, Viers, Weeks, Whipper, White, 20 Whitmire, Williams, Willis and Young 21 Document Path: l:\council\bills\gm\24886ac11.docx 22 Companion/Similar bill(s): 984 23 24 Introduced in the House on June 22, 2011 25 Adopted by the House on June 22, 2011 26 27 Summary: Vicki Bourus 28 29 30 HISTORY OF LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS 31 32 Date Body Action Description with journal page number 33 6/22/2011 House Introduced and adopted ( House Journalpage 2) 34 35 36 VERSIONS OF THIS BILL 37 38 6/22/2011 39 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A HOUSE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR VICKI BOURUS, EXECUTIVE 12 DIRECTOR OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA COALITION 13 AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT, 14 UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, AND TO 15 WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN 16 THE YEARS AHEAD. 17 18 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 19 Representatives are pleased to learn that Vicki Bourus will begin a 20 much deserved retirement on July 1, 2011, after twelve years as 21 Executive Director of the South Carolina Coalition Against 22 Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (SCCADVASA); and 23 24 Whereas, with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia 25 and a master’s degree in social work from the University of South 26 Carolina, she has worked extensively with victims of domestic and 27 sexual assault and child abuse as a licensed social worker; and 28 29 Whereas, since 1986, Ms. Bourus has been providing services and 30 advocating for victims of domestic and sexual assault and has 31 provided law enforcement officers, medical and legal 32 professionals, and social workers with consultation and training in 33 the identification, assessment, and treatment of victims of both 34 sexual and domestic violence and other related issues; and 35 36 Whereas, she has spearheaded numerous legislative efforts and has 37 worked relentlessly with state and agency leaders to direct the 38 development of effective policies on domestic violence and sexual 39 assault; and 40

[4379] 2 1 Whereas, among the various campaigns she has successfully 2 promoted are the highly visible and successful efforts, “Living 3 with the Enemy” and “Remember My Name”; and 4 5 Whereas, Ms. Bourus served on the Domestic Violence Task Force 6 of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy from 1987 to 7 1988 and served as the Chair of the Governor’s Domestic Violence 8 Fatality Review Task Force in 2004; and 9 10 Whereas, a recipient of a “Woman of Achievement” award from 11 the South Carolina Commission on Women in 2007, she serves on 12 the board of the National Network to End Domestic Violence and 13 on the board of directors of the South Carolina Victims Assistance 14 Network; and 15 16 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 17 Representatives are grateful for the years of dedication that Vicki 18 Bourus has devoted to protect the victims of domestic violence in 19 our State and wish her years of enjoyment in her well earned 20 retirement. Now, therefore, 21 22 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 23 24 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 25 by this resolution, recognize and honor Vicki Bourus, Executive 26 Director of the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic 27 Violence and Sexual Assault, upon the occasion of her retirement, 28 and wish her continued success and happiness in the years ahead. 29 30 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 31 Vicki Bourus. 32 XX 33
