TWENTIETH CENTURY CANADIAN HISTORY CHC 2D – SUMMATIVE ESSAY

The purpose of this project is to have you choose an individual who you feel made a significant impact on Canadian History in the 20th Century. This is not intended to be a biographical report, rather you are to make and defend a case explaining how your topic is or was a person of strong Character by highlighting the contributions made by this individual. You are to gather information and expand your research from a selected historical period within the century and link these concepts back to your original thesis. To provide some direction in conducting your research, you should contemplate the following questions:

a) What attributes makes a person one who possesses a strong and admirable Character? b) How did the individual make Canada better or worse through his/her efforts? c) How has this project changed the way that you view Canada, Canadians, and Canadian history?

The written component should be 3.5 typed and double spaced pages, following the persuasive essay format. This research essay will present facts that support a particular point of view or argument and will contain a thesis that will tell the reader what you are trying to prove. Remember, facts (evidence) are used to support opinions (arguments).

This is a multi-stage process. You will only be formally graded on your final product BUT in order to be successful it is highly recommended you complete all of the following stages before moving on.
