Family, Parents, and Guardians

We wish to welcome you to Lake View High School “Chicago’s Premier Neighborhood High School” and on behalf of the Army JROTC department; where the motto “We Motivate” Cadets “To Be a Better Citizen. Because you are your child’s primary educator, we are sure you will find this information useful in preparing for a successful start to SY2016-2017:

JROTC Students will receive instruction in the following:

1) Give the students an appreciation of the origin, advantages and responsibilities of citizenship in our country. 2) Develop in students an understanding of good leadership skills and the advantages of strong moral character. 3) Promote in the student an understanding for the need and application of our National security. 4) Develop in students a sense of pride and personal discipline. 5) Teach students to understand and respect the need for constitutional authority as the foundation of a democratic society.

The JROTC curriculum’s weekly grading scale is the following:

Reading Assignment/Lesson Discussion (Monday’s) = 15% Lesson of Instruction using JROTC Curriculum Manager (Tuesday’s) = 30% Drill and Ceremonies (Wednesday’s) = 10% Cadet Uniform Inspection / Weekly Curriculum/ Lesson Quiz (Thursday’s) = 30% Physical Fitness Training (Friday’s) = 15%

a) Please note: Cadets are inspected and graded on the wear their uniform every “Thursday” during the battalion formation at 7am. Students that fail to attend or not in uniform; will be required to make-up their inspection the following week and if they miss (3) battalion formations during a grading period will forfeit/lose a letter grade.

b) Cadets enrolled in JROTC are also required to participate in the following (2) mandatory program events each school year: 1) The City of Chicago’s Memorial Day Parade on: 5-27-2017 2.) The JROTC Cadet Military Ball (this will be announced later in the school year) * (These 2 events mentioned above are mandatory training events)*

c) For the purpose of team building and leadership training, cadets are required to participate as a member of (1) team, JROTC team practices are scheduled to meet before and after school. JROTC Teams meet for a 1 hr. period of participation on a weekly basis, training toward a team event “competition” with other JROTC school programs within the city of Chicago.

Communication is a very important part of any training and establishing and maintaining communication helps to ensure academic success and positive relationships with both students and parents.
