Purpose of job (global standard)

. To train business English, soft skills and business communication skills effectively to a range of participants across three locations in Ethiopia. . To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission.

The Corporate Training Unit is part of the Teaching Centre in Addis Ababa and delivers off-site English language, business communication and soft-skills training to the private sector as well as local ministries, government, and non-governmental organisations.

Our team comprises six full time and hourly paid teaching colleagues, a Professional Development Coordinator (PDC), a Teaching Centre Resource Manager and Head of English and Exams. The successful candidate will work off site exclusively with the remote support of the PDC and Teaching Centre Resources Manager.

Plan, prepare and deliver high quality business English, soft skills and business communication skills 1 training that meets the needs of the course participants taking into account individual learning styles.

Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout the 2 course, and actively promote learner autonomy.

Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and 3 related services, in order to meet students’ needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team.

Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards, including but not limited to 4 corporate reports, certificates, meeting attendance.

Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high 5 standards in teaching and learning, and maintain British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices.

Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students’ 6 understanding of contemporary UK.

Support local marketing and promotional strategy, and assist the teaching centre team in delivering 7 excellent customer service.

Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas: 8  Equal Opportunity and Diversity  Health and safety Key relationships:

The role requires regular travel across three locations on a rotating basis week on week. Close collaboration with the client will be necessary as well as flexibility; training will be delivered at the client’s three plants. The role will suit someone who enjoys autonomy and who can work with diverse groups (top management and shop floor).
