Directions: 1. Look at the charts on pages 438 and 477 to find facts about communism and fascism. Create a Venn Diagram with the facts you find. List the differences and similarities.
2. Conduct some research to find out about modern day dictators (ie: Kim family, Castro, Hussein, etc.) and 20th Century/WWII dictators (Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Mao Zedong, Tojo)
3. Turn in your notes on the dictators that you choose (you should choose at least 2 dictators to research and take notes on, and at least one must be a WWII dictator)
4. Write an argumentative essay arguing which dictator was worse (take into account death tolls, loss of personal freedoms, economic changes in the country, etc). a. This is an argumentative historical essay. Show your research in THIRD person (do not insert your own opinions). Make sure to give credit to all sources/authors! b. Include a clear thesis c. Your essay should be 3-5 pages in length, typed, in MLA format. d. You will need to include an MLA Works Cited/Bibilography at the end of the essay. e. You will need to submit your essay to www.turnitin.com f. You will still take notes during the presentations and use your knowledge to add thoughts to a Socratic Seminar that we will be having in class after the presentations are complete.
