Tender Mercies transforms the lives of homeless adults with mental illness by providing security, dignity, and community in a place they call home. We provide permanent housing and supportive services in a residential setting in 6 buildings in Over-the-Rhine. At any one time, we can serve 150 adults with histories of mental illness and homelessness. To prevent a return to homelessness, we provide a safe, comfortable home along with a variety of supportive services with the goal of helping residents regain dignity, independence, and stability.

Summary/Objective The Special Events Coordinator is responsible for the management of all fundraising events for Tender Mercies. Works with staff and volunteers to plan, coordinate and implement events designed to raise funds for and to promote community awareness of Tender Mercies. This position will lead three to four large fundraisers annually and serve as the liaison for smaller third party events. Requires occasional travel within the Cincinnati area.

Responsibilities 1. Lead the planning, implementation, and production of all fundraising events in conjunction with event chairs/committees including sponsors, vendor relationships, budgets, ticket sales, registration, logistics, and promotion. May coordinate activities related to event program. 2. Working with the Development Department and others as needed, manage and direct the creation of materials including external communications, printed materials, and event scripts. 3. Assist event committees with securing auction items and other in-kind donations. 4. Develop event timelines, marketing/promotion plans and monitor/manage event budgets. 5. Provide support in the research and solicitation of new and existing sponsors. 6. Work with Development staff to write and submit press releases and follow-up with media. 7. Coordinate and track sponsorship asks with guidance from Development Director and event chairs/committees. 8. Direct special event preparation, layout, execution and post-event recognition and donor/sponsor stewardship tasks. 9. In partnership with Development support staff, ensure that all event-related administrative duties are completed in a timely and efficient manner. These include, but are not limited to recording and tracking sponsor contracts and payments, reviewing and submitting invoices for payment, writing acknowledgement and thank you letters, designing donor solicitation packets and all event related forms, researching monetary and in-kind funding sources, and mailings. 10. Coordinate the recruiting and management of event volunteers with Volunteer Coordinator. 11. Other duties as assigned.

Expected Hours of Work Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; occasional nights and weekends required as needed to support special events and related committee meetings.

Education and Experience Required Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, Non-Profit Organization or related field Or an Associate degree with 5+ years of experience 3-5 years of event management experience Minimum 2-3 years of fundraising and/or marketing experience Experience with various social media platforms including but not limited to; Facebook, Twitter, etc. Significant expertise within the Cincinnati area’s funding community Must have experience using computer software & programs.

Preferred: Corporate and/or Business-to-Business sales experience may be substituted for fundraising experience. Knowledge of office systems: MS-Office preferred and event/fundraising database systems. Highly organized and detail oriented to manage event timelines and marketing processes. A team player with a passion for non-profit work and a commitment to working within a collaborative environment. Ability to relate well and work effectively with multiple constituencies and audiences. Excellent verbal and written skills.
