The AmeriCorps Exotic Plant Management Corpsmember (age 18-25) will be based at the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway in St. Croix Falls, WI, with field season (Late April to Mid-October) travel to up to 11 National Parks located in Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Primary duties will support high park priority invasive plant management and vegetation restoration practices in Great Lakes Exotic Plant Management Team Network National Parks. Interns will assist with manual and chemical plant control, seeding, equipment maintenance, data collection, data QAQC, report writing, identification of native and nonnative plants, outreach and education, and management planning. Members must be able to safely operate power and hand tools, chainsaws, small equipment and trucks pulling trailers.
JOB DETAILS: Location: Saint Croix Falls, WI AmeriCorps service position (ages 18-25 preferred) Term dates: January 15 – December 13, 2018 Service Schedule: Typical work day is 10 hours during the field season (Late April through Mid- October), which may be shortened to 8 hours or extended up to 16 hours. Crew members may be required to work for up to 80 consecutive hours, and may be called back in to service after 24 hours of rest. o Field Season: Wednesday-Wednesday, 10 hour days followed by 6 days off o Other months: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (typical) Stipend: $1690/mo Education award: $5815 upon successful completion of term
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to work well in both team and individual settings Good mechanical skills College course work or degree in Natural Resources related field Plant identification skills Ability to obtain and maintain herbicide applicator licenses in Wisconsin and Michigan. Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written formats Must be detail oriented and demonstrate safe work practices
REQUIREMENTS: 18-25 years old. Full term of service must be completed in order to receive the education award.
