Katy Lions Club Scholarship

The Katy Lions Club is proud to sponsor a series of $1,500 scholarships to qualifying students graduating from Katy ISD schools each Spring. The following are guidelines for the vetting of scholarship candidates and the award of scholarships.

REGULATIONS Applications submissions must be made to the senior counselor’s office at any of the Katy ISD High Schools by March 21, 2016 of the applicant’s senior year. Selection will be made by a committee comprised of one or more Katy Lions Club member(s), as deemed appropriate by the Katy Lions Club. The applications will be reviewed by the committee without student names and will be judged on the information and references provided. The winner will be announced at each of the campus Awards Night programs.

SELECTION CRITERIA Selections for the scholarship will be made based on the information requested by the application form. Minimum requirements for successful applicants are as follows:

1) The student must demonstrate academic achievement by being eligible to graduate in May/June of the student’s senior academic year. 2) A minimum grade point Ratio of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is required. 3) The student must demonstrate financial need. Please provide copy of parent’s W-2’s. 4) The student must have plans to attend a college, junior college, vocational or trade school upon graduation, with enrollment beginning no later than September of the same year of the student’s graduation year. 5) To achieve funding of the scholarship, the student must demonstrate academic achievement in the college, junior college, vocational or trade school of their choice, as required in the following section titled “Scholarship Funding”. 6) The student should demonstrate a history of community service. This carries a large weight in vetting candidates. 7) The student may not have a legal or school record indicating history of drug use or criminal/illegal activities.

SCHOLARSHIP FUNDING Scholarship funds will be distributed to winners in January following their first Fall term of undergraduate study. The student must present an original transcript from the previous semester’s work, demonstrating a grade point average (GPA/GPR) of 2.5 or above for at least 12 credit hours. Students participating in programs governed by quarterly terms or trimesters may submit transcripts upon completion of at least one term and at least 12 total hours of coursework. All 12 credit hours must be scaled or graded. Pass/Fail or audited course work may not be included as scaled/graded credit hours.

WINNERS’ NOTIFICATION The scholarship committee reviews all applications, selects, and notifies all winners. The winners will be notified of selection by telephone, letter or e-mail prior to graduation ceremonies at their respective high schools.

Scholarship winners will be requested to attend a Katy Lions Club meeting, where they will be informed of the Club’s mission and goals and will be presented with a certificate of their achievement in obtaining the Katy Lions Club Scholarship.

Winners are also invited to participate in any Lion’s Club fundraiser or charitable activity. We welcome new members and encourage everyone to participate in local charitable organizations. Katy Lions – We Serve APPLICATION FORM Katy Lions Club Scholarship
