New Gloucester Water District 385 Intervale Road, New Gloucester, Maine 04260 (207) 926-4126 Ext. 4 Trustees: Steven Johnson, Lawrence Zuckerman, James Giffune June 20, 2014
Dear Community Member: As we are now positioned to break ground on the new water system, please accept this update from your Board of Trustees.
Following an extensive bid review process, the contracts to build the new water system have been awarded. The contract to build the distribution network, including individual services to homes and businesses, was awarded to Gendron & Gendron of Lewiston, Maine. Gendron & Gendron has been in business for 42 years -- water system clients include the Auburn Water District. The contract to build the pump station, located on the site of the New Gloucester Fairgrounds, was awarded to Apex Construction of Rochester, New Hampshire. Apex has the experience necessary to ensure that our new pump station, including controls, will fully meet our operational needs. We are confident that Gendron & Gendron and Apex Construction will deliver a quality service at a competitive price.
Gendron & Gendron plans to begin construction on the water main portion of the project during the week of July 29th. Apex Construction plans to begin construction on the pump station during the week of August 8th.
For those of you that own a home or business located on the new water system, and have signed a service agreement, we expect connections to take place in three steps: 1) Gendron & Gendron will contact you regarding an appointment for their plumber to assess your current private water system connection and determine what they’ll need to connect your property to the new public water system. 2) As individual sections of water main are completed, crews will begin installing individual service lines in-ground and stub a service connection into your home or business. We expect this step to occur during this construction season. 3) After the pump station is completed and the new water system is fully permitted and operational, a licensed plumber will contact you to gain access and connect your home or business to the new water system. At this time, we do not expect this step to occur until spring 2014.
All work will be performed in such a manner as to provide safe passage at all times for the public and with a minimum obstruction to traffic. We anticipate limited closures of non-critical road segments. While closure dates have not yet been set, if you wish to be placed on the road closure notification list, please send an email to [email protected]. Please include “traffic notification list” in the subject line. During closures, the contractor is obligated to maintain access to your driveway and local resident, business, school, and emergency traffic.
Enclosed you will find an invitation to the project’s official groundbreaking ceremony, to be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 19th at the New Gloucester Fairgrounds. Please join us to celebrate this historic event.
We appreciate your consideration and patience during the construction process. Your Board of Trustees is committed to doing everything we can to make this a successful project. As we move forward, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the New Gloucester Town Planner, Paul First. He can be reached at (207) 926-4126 Extension 4.
Working together we have come far. Thank you for your help to make groundwater contamination in New Gloucester’s Upper Village part of our community’s past.
Sincerely,
Steven Johnson, Chairman
