FUNCTIONAL JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Cad Operator

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

PREPARED DATE: August 4, 2006

SUMMARY: Prepares clear, complete and accurate working plans and detail drawings from rough or detailed sketches or notes by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.  Makes final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.  Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.  Sketches rough layout of machine and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages, and location holes.  Makes any adjustments or changes necessary or desired.  Draws charts for representation of statistical data.  Draws finished designs from sketches.  Drafts detailed multi-view drawing of machine and products.  Communicate with Tooling, Quality, and Manufacturing regarding new and revised prints.  Uses computer assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software.  Shop inspections to ensure proper manufacture of parts.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Understanding of manufacturing workflow, including planning activities.  Knowledge of ISO 9000 requirements.  High skill level in CAD software. Ability to learn new graphic software to compliment the presentation of DBWorks designs.  Understand basic electrical and mechanical engineering principles.  Ability to communicate effectively, make presentations and write routine reports, operating instructions and correspondence.  Ability to work with vendors, customers, and employees.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardization situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of SolidWorks and AutoCAD design software.
