Lesson 2.5 - Measurement and Accuracy Project

Lesson 2.5 – Measurement and Accuracy Project

Problem Objectives: In this activity the students will learn the basics of precision measurement. The students will be required to perform conversion calculations between standard and metric and metric to standard inch. The students will also be required to select the most appropriate measuring instrument to obtain dimensions from a sample part to the degree of accuracy required by the plans.

Statement of the Problem: Determine the degree of accuracy required for each dimension on the drawing. Taking into consideration the degree of accuracy required, select the most appropriate instrument for each required dimension. Measure the following dimensions in standard inch: A, B, C, D, E, K, J. Then measure dimensions F, G, H, I, K, L in metric units. Record your findings and the instrument used in the chart below. Next convert each dimension to the appropriate format.

Standard Inch Metric Conversion Instrument A. B. C. D. E. F G. H. I. J. K. L. M.
