Summary: Under the direction of the Manager of Clinical Support, the Media Development Specialist provides technical support for all professional development and educational programming for ambulatory staff. The Media Development Specialist assists the Staff Education department in preparing for new models of educational content delivery.

The Media Specialist’s primarily responsible for developing media-based curricula, programs, and content to support care model implementation and ongoing support of the delivery of education regarding the care model at the clinic level. The Media Specialist is responsible for tracking the inventory of all learning media, its quality and content.

The Media Development Specialist is responsible for the assessment of gaps in educational technical application of clinical education programming; and evaluation of clinical educational methods and program outcomes throughout ambulatory operations. Major emphasis will be placed on care model implementation and ongoing support of the delivery of education regarding the care model at the clinic level. Incorporation of the ambulatory care model encompasses all aspects of clinical education including: clinical policy and procedures, clinical competency testing, clinical staff orientation, annual skills testing, and implementing educational needs assessments are performed on a routine basis in order to evaluate current and develop future clinical training needs. The incumbent possesses a high degree of computer application skill, Health Link, and overall computer based functionality.

The Media Development Specialist applies innovative teaching strategies, methodologies and technology in order to provide for cost-effective and well-executed programs of clinical education. This position is the primary UW Health Clinical Staff Education contact for computer based training and will work closely with other UW Health Departments, physicians and other providers, clinic staff, clinic management, operations and others as identified. The incumbent must employ excellent communication skills in sharing information with users within and outside the department. This position also serves as a secondary resource to the Clinical Staff Educators to assist in providing onsite support education during implementation including one on one sessions with providers and staff, refresher training, onsite support, creation of end user documentation, and updates responsibilities as assigned (to include training on Healthlink, Reporting Workbench, as well as others).

Qualifications/Requirements: . Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Development, Training & Development, Human Resource Management, Computer Science or related field (experience will be considered in lieu of educational background). . 2-3 years of experience in planning, developing, presenting and evaluating program curriculum, content and design is required . Knowledge . Technical and analytical ability to assess and/or resolve technical functionality . 1 – 2 years’ experience in clinical systems analysis or direct health care delivery preferred . Knowledge and proficiency in MS Office required . Knowledge of computer applications such as Captivate and Articulate (or equivalent) is required . 1 year experience in clinical competency testing, orientation, training, or computer based training is required . Knowledge in distance learning preferred . Knowledge, skill and application of electronic medical record preferred . 2 – 3 years’ experience in quality improvement principles preferred . Knowledge and experience in adult educational principles strongly preferred . Demonstrate high degree of professionalism and service excellence . Public speaking and formal presentation experience, along with excellent verbal and written skills required . Experience in developing and evaluating staff education materials . Ability and experience in monitoring nursing practice trends and making changes in clinical education based on trends is preferred . Must possess initiative and ability to work independently . Ability to educate all levels of clinical and non-clinical staff . Ability to maintain confidentiality of medical records . Ability to prioritize tasks and to work in a changing/dynamic work environment . Ability to implement most efficient/effective training resolutions keeping in mind clinical workflows and system limitations . Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize, schedule and complete a large number of requests  Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to promote teamwork and ensure a high degree of internal and external customer satisfaction.  Excellent oral, written and communication skills . Position Responsibilities: Essential Organizational Based Responsibilities Y 1. Adhere to general organizational, department, and clinical policies. Y 2. Adhere to patient confidentiality and HIPPA requirements. Y 3. Attend all mandatory training sessions and staff meetings as assigned. Y 4. Participate in continuing education to maintain certification where applicable. Y 5. Conform to infection control policies, utilize aseptic technique, and follow standard precautions.

Department Based Responsibilities Y 6. Develops and implements a philosophy of learning for staff, patients and families. Y 7. Develop relevant education regarding clinical policies and procedures; ensuring education is consistent and compatible with organizational policies and procedures, and with the ambulatory care model. Y 8. Post and update changes to education modules on Uconnect and the Learning and Development System. Y 9. Assist with the development and implementation of computer based training for annual skills testing for clinical staff that supports the care model and new models of care. Y 10. With clinic management and physician leadership input, prioritize the delivery method of ambulatory clinical training needs. Y 11. Participate in system-wide development of educational programming. Y 12. Develop, organize, and present clinical orientation program for new employees and clinical staff. Y 13. Assist other departments in the development of teaching materials related to clinical practice. Y 14. Support education related to chronic disease and medication management. Y 15. Annual review of clinical training programs to ensure consistency with the care management model. Y 16. Systematically assesses learning needs and provides research based educational programming. Y 17. Consults with clinic staff concerning staff learning issues, and works with them to maximize clinical staff comfort level and competencies in the care of patients. Y 18. Designs and makes available pertinent learning tools and resources (e.g., Health Facts for You, teaching guidelines and documentation tools, videos, etc.) Y 19. Designs/conducts quality improvement activities related to the education of clinic staff. Y 20. Develop clinical orientation program for new clinical staff. Y 21. Develops and implements clinical competencies and computer based training. Y 22. Represent Clinical Staff Education on organizational committees as needed. Y 23. Collaborate with the Healthlink Education department Y 24. Support appropriate Health Link training session for Clinical Staff Education Department. Y 25. Ensures updates of all computer based training in a timely manner. Y 26. Maintains documentation for how each new version is released. Y 27. Provides ongoing computer based training and support to clinic staff. Y 28. Participates in developing and delivering communication for all computer based updates. Y 29. Works with department leaders and Clinical Staff Educators to prioritize and determine timelines for scheduling of computer based training. Y 30. Provides communication to clinics regarding new and updated computer based training. Y 31. Perform clinical site visits to monitor the computer based training needs of the clinics; and to gain additional insight into the clinical environment and clinical issues, and to develop and refine the relationships with our clinics. Y 32. Participate in the implementation and support of Health Link and related applications through the development and delivery of UW Health wide clinical training and optimization programs for employees that will utilize clinical software in their daily activities. Y 33. Utilizes fundamental principles of adult education according to industry and department standards. Y 34. Partner with Health Link Education, Optimization and Support, Human Resources and other resources to develop and deliver new employee training to clinical staff and providers Y 35. Collaborate with internal and external resources as necessary to develop computer/web based training, optimization and refresher/reference programs that meet organizational needs. Y 36. Identifies barriers to creating new programs and continuing existing programs, and finds creative solutions that meet the needs of our clinical, operational and business partners. Y 37. Administer and coordinate training program creation, registration and completion in the Learning and Development System as needed. Y 38. Assist Clinical Staff Educators in scheduling and delivering direct technical support for the delivery of distance education. Y 39. Develop and maintain content and documents to be effectively communicated via the intranet site. Y 40. Utilize time tracking tools, as required by department to assure accurate project planning and budgeting needs. Y 41.
