Hello Everybody for one more time !
After a lot of request, ESA decided to create an Accommodation team of volunteers. Finding an accommodation in Athens is one of the hardest things to do if your are abroad, but it is easier to find one when you are here and have the help of someone who speaks Greek .
If you register in this service, we will assign you a Greek volunteer student who will do a small research for available apartments based on three criteria (see below), a few days before you arrive in Athens . When you arrive in Athens you and your Greek buddy will go together and check it from close and if you like it you can rent it.
The accommodation volunteer is not responsible to book the apartment or give any guarantee to the owners for you. He is just there to do a small research for you and help you with the arrangements. The accommodation will not be for sure if you do not present yourself.
In any case you will have someone with you who knows the streets of Athens, speaks the Greek language , be able to read Greek newspaper ads , and help you to get into contact with owners.
You are advised to find on your own a hotel or a hostel for the first days , until you find a regular accommodation .
Criteria for Accommodation
A. Price 1. 250-400 per person for one people apartment. 2. 150-300 per person for two people apartment. 3. 125-250 per person for three or more people apartment.
B. Furniture 1. With basic furniture. 2. With no furniture (cheaper rent, but you will have to buy the things you will need)
C. Location 1. Within walking distance from TEI (best for those who will have classes there). 2. In the center of Athens, close to metro stations (best for those who do their practice).
If you want someone to help you find an accommodation , sent an email to [email protected] with the subject "Accommodation Application-Name" and the following info : • Full name • Country • Email • Faculty of study • Day of Arrival • Address of hotel or the hostel you will spend the first days • Your search criteria (A, B, and C) • Would you like to stay with exchange students from your or other countries? • With whom would you like to be together? • The exact period you want to rent the apartment .
For example :
Subject: Accommodation Application-John Smith
1) John Smith 2) Scotland 3) [email protected] 4) Tei Athens Nursing department 5) Arrive on 20 September 6) Hostel Afrodite Mickael Vouta 65 near Larisa metro station 7) A3. 125-250 per person for three or more people apartment. 8) B1. With basic furniture. 9) C2. In the center of Athens, close to metro station (My practice will be in the RED Cross Hospital in Euagelismos area). 10) I would love to stay with other students from different countries. 11) I want to be with my friend Jack Dylan from Scotland. 12) I want the apartment from 1 October to 25 January.
In a few days after you send your application, a volunteer will send you an email and confirm that he is going to help you, and he will start looking for an apartment based on your criteria.
We repeat that accommodation team members are not responsible to find and book an apartment for you, but they will be there to help you during your research. In any case do not stop searching on your own.
I hope that this action of ESA members will help in the main problem ERASMUS students have to face.
