CITROËN MOTORSPORT BOSS RETIRES

Citroën Sport’s director, Guy Fréquelin has announced his retirement after a long and highly successful career in motorsport

Fréquelin turned Citroën into the team to beat, taking World Rally Championship titles in 2003, 2004 and 2005, discovering Sébastien Loeb, who has gone on to become the most successful rally driver of all time, with world titles in 2004, 2005 and 2006 and making the Citroën Xsara one of the most successful motorsport cars of all time. Under his management Citroën and Loeb now hold the records for most wins by one driver, most wins in one season and most consecutive wins. Prior to the World Rally Championship campaign, Fréquelin also guided Citroën to success in the World Rally Raid Championships, with five titles from 36 wins.

Much than just a World Rally Championship team, Citroën Sport also builds a range of competition cars for aspiring champions and has taken world titles in the Junior World Rally Championship, with Fréquelin managing both businesses highly successfully.

With his decision to retire fully supported by Citroën and faithful to Citroen’s motto – to finish first, first you have to finish – Fréquelin will continue to manage the world rally team and its crews until the end of the 2007 season with the ultimate target of a fourth consecutive world title for Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena.

Citroën has also announced that Olivier Quesnel will be Fréquelin’s successor as from the 1 January 2008. However, he will be present with the team as from Rally Ireland, penultimate round of the 2007 World Rally Championship, which takes place next weekend (16-18 November 2007). ______
