Supervisor : Residential Program Manager

Position Function : Turning Point Supervisor (TPS) reports to the Residential Program Manager. Responsibilities include: supervision of direct care staff; monitoring the day-to-day operation of a group home; providing case management, transition planning services, and family education classes. TPS will also provide informative presentations to the community regarding the program. The job requires sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and knowledge and application of Trauma Informed Care.

Education Requirements : Bachelor’s degree in human services field required, Master’s preferred.

Experience Requirements: 2 years in residential or child placing care, and 2 years of supervisory experience.

Functional Requirements: Must demonstrate an understanding of trauma informed practices, an ability to recognize family strengths and the developmental needs of children and families. Must demonstrate an ability to partner with families. Must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with clients, other ACH Child and Family Services staff, and staff from other agencies. Must demonstrate leadership and management skills such as time-management, organization, handling conflict, motivation, etc. Must be able to handle a high degree of mental stress related to working with children and families and supervising employees. Requires good hearing and vision to assess situations quickly and respond appropriately. Must have excellent writing skills and the ability to complete reports and documents in a timely manner. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license and have a driving record, which is within guidelines of the insurance underwriter. Must not have been convicted of a felony or criminal offense against a child. Must demonstrate an understanding of trauma-informed care and competency- based programming.

Working Conditions: Exposure to the group home environment on a daily basis. This could include clients with behavioral problems, including possible physical aggression. Will also be exposed to the typical hazards of the home environment, related to household activities, cleaning agents, and food preparation. Exposure to illness and blood exists. Will also at times be responsible for supervising youth in external settings, with exposure to heat and cold.

Position Description: Group Home Supervisor Revised 7-15-10 Page 1 of 4 External Contacts: Responsible for contact with parents, guardians, relatives, school personnel, therapists, case managers from other agencies, psychiatrists, law enforcement officials, other external youth and adults, and other community members.

Internal Contacts: All youth and staff of ACH Child and Family Services.

Supervisory Responsibility: The Family Home Supervisor will oversee and monitor the work of the Youth Care Specialists. This includes all aspects of their job as well as agency related activities and responsibilities.

Decision Making Responsibility: Complete all paperwork in a timely manner in accordance with State of Texas guidelines. Coordinate all contact with parents/guardians and external contacts. Coordinate, approve, and/or make final decisions concerning the group home operations, staffing situations, and client interventions.

Consequences of Errors: Adverse youth outcomes. Dissatisfied youth, families, and staff. Inconsistency among staff members, miscommunication with other employees, loss of credibility with other agencies, loss of income, and loss of licensure.

Exposure to Confidential Information: Resident and staff records.

Position Description: Group Home Supervisor Revised 7-15-10 Page 2 of 4 Implementation  Attend all shift change meetings.  Communicate in such a way that provides encouragement, helpful feedback, conflict resolution, and proactive decision-making.  Participate in 24-hour staffing.  Teach and support behavior interventions.  Lead guardian education classes.  Attend and participate in weekly supervision.  Complete a monthly calendar, which provides coverage information for staff vacations, special outings, etc.  Provide, post, and follow a group home routine.  Sign all staff timesheets.  Complete a TPS Weekly Checklist each week and the Licensing Checklist every two weeks.  Complete a Building & Kitchen Inspection form every quarter.  Monitor the home medications and insure that all licensing standards are met.  Monitor home cleanliness to insure a safe and clean environment.  Interview at least one youth per week to discuss goals, living environment, concerns, etc.  Maintain regular contact with appropriate caregivers and guardians.

Supervision & Evaluation  Provide YCS access to the intake paperwork of youth entering the program  Interview potential YCS applicants.  Coordinate the orientation schedule for newly hired YCS staff.  Support the implementation of the Trauma Informed Model of Care in the home.  Consult Policies and Procedures for further list of responsibilities.  Other responsibilities may arise or be given to the TPS at anytime.
