Dealing with Unbroken Curses

DEALING WITH UNBROKEN CURSES

Many people live below God’s expectation and provision for them because of the devastating, decimating and destabilizing effects of unbroken curses in their lives. Unless they deal with these unbroken curses in their lives, life will be far from benign for them. Just as you cannot fight and defeat an invisible enemy that you don’t know is attacking you, so also you cannot break a curse that you don’t know exists. Just as you cannot fight and win a battle you are not aware of, so also you cannot eliminate a curse you are not aware of. God has not left us in ignorance as to the possibility of unbroken curses in our lives. The scripture is very explicit about curses and their effects. Until the legal grounds for those operating curses are nullified and the curses themselves and their associated mechanisms are destroyed, unbroken curses will continue to affect people’s lives adversely.

HIDDEN SOURCE OF TROUBLE Judges 9:19,20,22-24,56,57; Joshua 6:26; 1 Kings 16:34; Psalm 109:1-20; Malachi 3:8-12; Proverbs 3:33; Zechariah 5:3,4; Exodus 20:4-6; Numbers 22:6; 23:7,8,20,23.

Unbroken curses are often the hidden source of trouble in many people’s lives. The curses cannot be broken because they don’t even know such curses exist. Sometimes, curses can lie dormant in a person’s life waiting for the right moment or a triggering event to activate it. When such occurs, an otherwise peaceful and prosperous life suddenly becomes uncontrollably turbulent and disaster ridden. Everything seems to go wrong and fall apart at the same time. Consider the curse which Jotham the son of Gideon placed on Abimelech and the people of Shechem. The curse lay dormant for three years before being activated (Judges 9:19,20,22-24,56,57). The curse that Joshua placed upon Jericho remained dormant for more than six hundred years. However the event associated with the curse as a trigger was the rebuilding of Jericho. When this event occurred, the curse was activated and it took its toll (Joshua 6:26; 1 Kings 16:34). Some are suffering from generational curses that abide upon their families as a result of past idolatry and wickedness of forefathers. The problem is that they are ignorant of the source of their troubles (Exodus 20:4- 6; Proverbs 3:33). Others are the architects of their own misfortune because of their unfaithfulness in God’s house as believers but they don’t think this is the reason (Malachi 3:8-12; 1:14; 2:1-5; Jeremiah 48:10).

HEART SALVATION AND TRANSLATION Proverbs 28:13; Isaiah 55:6,7; Mark 1:15; 1 John 1:9; Romans 10:9-15; Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:12-14; 2:13-15

Curses can be broken with the help of God and following laid down spiritual principles in the scriptures. However divine assistance is only available to the genuine believer. God is angry with the sinner EVERYDAY (Psalm 7:11) and the wicked can only end up in hell (Psalm 9:17). The sinner is already cursed and cannot enjoy the blessings of the Lord (Proverbs 3:33; Zechariah 5:3,4; Isaiah 3:10,11). The first and foremost thing for the sinner to do in the process of breaking curses is to be saved. Only the saved can be guaranteed the favour of the Lord and His help (Proverbs 28:13; Isaiah 55:6,7). There is forgiveness and cleansing when we repent and believe the gospel (Mark 1:15; 1 John 1:9; Romans 10:9-15; Ephesians 1:7). Genuine heart salvation and transformation is the foundation for deliverance from curses and dominion over every form of satanic harassment. When a person is saved, the power of sin and Satan over the individual is broken. The handwriting of ordinances and curses can be wiped away and blotted out. The individual experiences translation from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of God’s dear Son (Colossians 1:12- 14; 2:13-15). The individual ceases to be a slave of Satan the old master with all his tyranny and oppression and becomes a child of God enjoying the privileges of adoption, love, favour etc. (John 8:44; 1:12; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; 1 John 3:1; Colossians 1:12-14; Ephesians 2:10-14; Romans 8:15-17).

HEAVEN’S SECRET OF TRIUMPH 2 Corinthians 2:11; Isaiah 5:13; Hosea 4:6; Luke 10:17-19; Isaiah 10:27; 61:1-3; Acts 10:38; Mark 16:15-20

The path to victory is the knowledge of the way (John 8:32). Knowledge that is acted upon has the capacity to set the captive free. There is a way out of unbroken curses and it is only a secret to the ignorant. God has revealed the pathway to freedom in His word if we will only follow it.

(1) Knowledge of the possible curses operating in your life You cannot cancel a curse that you don’t know exists. You cannot dismantle a barrier you have no knowledge of. Ignorance can only fetter you in bondage. Satan will take advantage of such ignorance to put you in his captivity (2 Corinthians 2:11; Isaiah 5:13; Hosea 4:6).

Curses come in different shapes and sizes: (a) Curses from God as a result of breaking His commandments (Proverbs 3:33; Malachi 3:8-12; 1:14; 2:1-5; Jeremiah 48:10; Exodus 20:4-6). (b) Curses from people that have been wronged and hence have legal right to curse (Psalm 109:1-20; Judges 9:1-57) (c) Curses from Satan or his agents with legal right or backing (1 Peter 5:8,9; Proverbs 26:2). (d) Curses from Satan or his agents or mere men but without any legal grounds (Numbers 22:6; 23:7,8,20,23).

When by searching our lives and applying scriptural principles we cannot discern any curse and yet we are sure there are indications of unbroken curses in our lives, we can pray to God and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal curses so subtle and hidden that without God’s revelation we will never know (John 16:12-15).

(2) Knowledge of the path to victory and dominion Every curse can be cancelled including the ones from God though the processes can differ from curse to curse. Curses that have no legal ground for operating can just be cancelled and their associated demons bringing their fulfilment cast out. Repentance followed by personal revoking of the curses and dealing with the associated demons is the way out of curses with legal ground for operating (John 8:32).

(3) Exercise your power and authority in Jesus’ name God has given us the power to set the captives free (Luke 10:17-19; Isaiah 10:27; 61:1-3; Acts 10:38). Use your authority in Christ to cancel every debilitating curse in your life. Uproot the foundation of generational curses etc.
