INTRODUCTION ……. 

Dear children! Everyday in your school, at your home to write you may use BALL POINT PENS. Is it right? So, today let us know – How and when did this Ball point pen is invented? And how does it work?

INVENTION……. 

Over two decades back ink-pot with a feather (Quill) or soft wood with pointed tips and later came ink-pens, ink filled in a tube and flowed on to paper through a nib. Slowly after invention of Ballpoint pens, these Ballpoint pens became a daily need of everyman. As said proverb- “Necessity is the mother of invention”. In using ink-pens had number of problems, one of the problem like- while traveling in an Aeroplane, due to decrease in air preasure the ink in the tube could not flow through the nib while writing to overcome this problem further researches were conducted to develop a better and most reliable pen. After number of years research studies came to success with an invention of Ball Point Pen in the year 1943. Here onwards having number of changes and modifications today, we are able to see and use many number of Ball Point Pens made by many number of companies, types, sizes, shapes and colours.

STRUCTURAL OVERVIEW ……. 

GHS, JAMA-E-OSMANIA, HYD Ball Point Pens are made-up of plastic or metals having cylindrical shaped – tube, lids, and cap. Ink-refill inside is mostly made-up of polythene plastic. Inside a Ball Point Pen in one of the front lid is provided with a steel spring to create an impulse to refill tip (i.e., Round Ball Point made of steel).

BALL POINT PEN WORKS ……. 

Ball Point Pen has a cylindrical tube covered at the back end with a lids or push buttons and the front lid is having a open hole to move refill inside the tube up & down, only the Steel tip with ball point is peeped out of this hole. The front lid is arranged with a steel spring to create an impulse to tip while writing. Due to spring inside the front lid the preasure on the ball tip is equalized and provides smooth and fast writing to the user of the pen. The ink inside the refill tube will be thick, that’s why ink does not leak as in the case of Ink-pens. The ink of a Ball Point Pen flows only when it is moved to write on a writing material. To write with a Ball Point Pen we do not require a blotting paper where as to write with an ink pen we require a blotting paper. Now days, to write neat and clear handwriting, Ball Point Pen usage is a daily activity.
