GUERNSEY COUNTY YOUTH COMMISSION Meeting Minutes – April 5, 2006 9:00 A.M. – GCDJFS

Present: Tut Turner – OVESC-Alt. School Linda Minter – SEAT Mike Kachilla – Chamber of Com. City Schools Chad Hibbs – FCFC Mark Shambaugh – Grand Haven Resort Approval of Minutes: The minutes from the March 1, 2006 meeting were reviewed and approved on a motion from Rhonda Pilck and seconded by Jean Stevens. Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s Report was distributed and reviewed. The total expenses over the past month was $88.00, and there was no income. The interest for the months of February and March totaled $2.28. The current checkbook balance as of April 4, 2006 was $2,686.32. The report was accepted and approved on a motion from Quentin Knauer and seconded by Art Clemenson. March Event Update: - Youth Carnival – Very successful event that was held on Sunday, March 26 at Central Elementary. Youth Leadership students did a great job with everything, and they seemed to have learned a lot of valuable lessons. Approximately 200 kids attended. Picture of the event made the front page of the paper. SMARTT Program Update: - Cake Auction – Volunteers needed. The event is April 6 at the Pritchard Laughlin Civic Center. Doors open at 5PM with a silent auction, and the live auction begins at 6:30PM. Live remote on WCMJ from 4- 6PM. There are 40 cakes, and 45 items. Items can be viewed on the radio station’s website. April Event Planning: There are no egg hunts planned locally (we had food concessions in the past), therefore it was agreed by Commission members to roll our April event into May where we will be involved with two events (Bike Rodeo & Mud Madness). Youth Commission – 4/5/06 Page 2 May Event Planning: We are again teaming-up with the Cambridge Kiwanis Club for their annual Bike Rodeo, which will be taking place on Saturday, May 20 at the Cambridge City Park large pavilion. We will again contribute bike helmets to the event. We will donate $200 toward the purchase of the helmets. This was approved on a motion from Tut Turner and seconded by Leslie Leppla. Tim will place the order (70 helmets) and the Kiwanis will make up the difference. We will be holding our 5th Annual Mud Madness Challenge on Sunday, May 21. There is a new location this year. We are now going to be at the Byesville Village Park. Registration will begin at 12:30PM and the games will begin at 1PM. (See enclosed flyer). We will have 3 courts this year. Youth Leadership students will be in charge of registering kids at their schools. We will also be adding John Glenn this year. We will find a Byesville organization to run a food concession. Getting donations from various businesses to purchase t-shirts for the participants. More details to come. Other Business: Received thank you cards from Alcohol and Drug Services of Guernsey County for sponsoring 4 students at a total of $100 for the Teen Institute. Received a thank you card from the GCDJFS/CSEA for the food pantry donations. Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned on a motion from Mike Kachilla.

 Following this meeting, Youth Commission reps will be meeting with reps from the Byesville Village Park at 10AM to discuss the upcoming Mud Madness Challenge.

 The next meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at the GCDJFS at 9:00 A.M.
