Job Title: Project Officer, Community Street Design, Active School Neighbourhoods

Salary: Grade F: £21,321 - £23,864 pro rata per annum (dependent on relevant skills and experience)

Fixed Term: 12 month contract

Hours: 22.5 per week

Base: Cross House Westgate Road Newcastle

Purpose of the Job: To support the delivery of a BIG Lottery funded Active School Neighbourhood (ASN) project a n d Newcastle Cycle City Ambition DIY Streets project with the aim of working with schools and their communities to establish barriers to active travel and in response, redesign the local streets and neighbourhood to create safer, more attractive and sociable neighbourhoods.

The designs will be innovative and push the boundaries of conventional street layouts.

Place in the Organisation: The post holder will report to the Network Manager and work closely with the Active School Neighbourhood Senior Project Officer and Co-ordinator and the central communities' team.

To work with the Senior Project Officer (SPO) to deliver the BIG Lottery funded Active School Neighbourhoods (ASN) project to address local traffic and transport concerns in Newcastle by proactively engaging in the design and delivery of a community led design process. 2. To act as a key contact for the participating schools and to foster, promote and develop successful relationships with residents and other community stakeholders. 3. To support the development of street re-design proposals. 4. To work with the Communities' team to develop appropriate materials to facilitate community input into the design process. 5. To support the design and deliver community engagement activities and events, such as consultations events, street parties, road closures etc. 6. To support the Network Manager, Programme Manager, Smarter Choices and t h e Senior Project Officer, ASN in the development of new project opportunities. 7. To support t h e Senior Project Officer, ASN in the evaluation and reporting on project outcomes 8. To work with t h e Senior Project Officer, ASN to support the generation of positive media based upon ASN work in Newcastle 9. To work in accordance with the arrangements described in the organisation's health and safety management system including any project or department specific requirements 10. To undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade, the post and capabilities of the post holder as directed by the line manager.

Working Conditions: The post will be based at the Newcastle office, with some travel to Sustrans head office in Bristol. There will also be some travel required, including regular visits to the project area potentially with some overnights away from home. Due to the nature of the role some work outside normal office hours will be required.

Knowledge Knowledge and understanding of: urban and public realm design; and transport planning and policy Appreciation of wider urban design issues and sustainable transport modes.
