Beloit College Student Teaching Faculty Supervisor Expectations 2017
1. Please submit the following paperwork for our records: a. A completed and signed W-9 form. At the completion of the semester’s activities and documentation, you will receive a check from Beloit College for the agreed-upon rate. The W-9/Vendor form may be found at https://www.beloit.edu/accounting/forms/. Click on Vendor Form. Complete and either email directly to our accounting staff person, Debbie Sperry at [email protected] or to me at [email protected] . If you prefer, you may print off the form and fax directly to the Beloit College accounting office at: 608-363-2897. b. A copy of your most recent resume. Please submit to Kathryn Johnson, Program Coordinator, at [email protected]
2. Establish contact with the student teacher. Set up an initial observation visit.
3. Schedule four classroom teaching observations of the student teacher. These observations should be for at least an hour each and spaced relatively evenly across the semester. (The initial visit can include the first observation.) Whenever possible, following each observation, meet with the student teacher, and, if scheduling permits, the cooperating teacher, as well.
4. Review the student teacher’s lesson plans as they accumulate. The student teacher should submit lesson plans to you ahead of time (you decide how much ahead of time) for the classes you will be observing.
5. Monitor the placement for possible conflicts. If, in your opinion, these become significant, consult with the chair of the department of Education and Youth Studies at Beloit College to determine what steps to take.
6. Complete the appropriate evaluations and share them with the student teacher and cooperating teacher. The student teacher and cooperating teacher should each complete her or his own evaluations of the student teaching, as well. Please collect and submit all of these to the EDYS department for inclusion in the student teacher’s file. (See Student Teaching Observation/Evaluation: Fall 2017for a listing and description of the evaluations.) Documents will be in electronic format be on the lookout for a folder with all electronic materials.
*The Beloit College Student Teaching Handbook and other student teaching documents, including evaluation forms are included. **Our Student Teacher Supervision Manager, Bob Fitzsimmons, will be in contact with you this summer to answer any questions you may have.
