Secretary S Report for June 11, 2007 Meeting

Secretary’s Report for June 11, 2007 Meeting

7:15--Meeting called to order by Hyrum KB1KRS. Secretary’s Report for May accepted as published in the Communicator. Treasurer’s Report: Balance of $886.14 reported by Howard N1LUP, accepted. Communicator: Hyrum KB1KRS has just sent out this month’s printed copies. He will be putting out a summer issue next month to cover anything that comes up between now and then and it will be the last issue till late August. Website: Chris KB1NEK is interested in taking over the website. Public Service: Tom N1OTS not present. Hyrum reminded the meeting of two events coming up this summer: Greenfield Triathlon on Sunday, August 5; Bridge of Flowers on Saturday, August 11. Repeaters: Bill N1EWK and Chet N1XPT have the weather station back up and running. VE Team: Walt W1ZPB said the next session is August 27 and he anticipates more technicians will be upgrading to general. Congratulations to Barbara N1NOI on getting her general. Old Business: Car pool trip to the ARRL in Newington over the summer: Bill N1EWK will take four people down in his car. The trip has to be on a weekday, either Monday or Friday. Let Hyrum know which Monday or Friday you’d be able to go (during July or August). Bill said the best time to leave is about 8:30 in the morning to have time to see things, have lunch, and do some more looking. If you bring your license with you, you’ll be able to operate. Chet N1XPT has been working on programming the CERT radios and has made a list of frequencies he plans to put into the radios. He passed out copies of the list to members present for their input on whether any frequencies are appropriate or inappropriate. The list will be amended accordingly and the radios programmed. Club members who are not CERT members and who may want to help out in an emergency can get a copy of the list so they’ll know what the CERT channels are. New Business: Election of Officers: 16 members present. Dick AC1L from the Nominating Committee sent out 81 blanks asking for nominations, 21 were returned, which is probably the best in years. The following people were nominated: Vice President, Carter WA1TVS; Treasurer, Howard N1LUP; Director, Bill N1EWK and John, KB1NOH. There were no nominations from the floor. Ballots were passed out and counters designated. Results: Director, N1EWK. Field Day: The trailer is coming along and is waiting for tires; inside is wired. Hyrum has sent out invitation letters to the police and fire chiefs in Greenfield and Montague, the mayor, Fred Alden (Emergency Management Director), Frank Abbondanzio (Town Administrator, Montague), and other select persons. Barbara N1NOI asked if these were sent on club letterhead. Answer was no, the club doesn’t have letterhead. Discussion followed; this will be brought up at the E-Board next week. Hyrum also brought an article on Field Day to The Recorder and is writing another for the Montague

1 Reporter. Voted to spend $150 for food, including some vegetarian selections at every meal. Programs for next year: Hyrum suggested a DX video; other suggestions were slow-scan TV and packet. Upcoming Events: Breakfast, Saturday, June 16, 8:00, Bill’s Restaurant. E-Board, Monday, June 18, 7:00 at AC1L’s.

8:12--Meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted, Sue Urquhart KB1EZO, Secretary

WEBMASTER DUTIES

Al Woodhull, N1AW, has agreed to take on maintenance of our club website and Chris Myers, KB1NEK, will act as backup and assistant. Dick, WA1EDC, has asked to be relieved of this responsibility due to other pressing matters, but will assist as needed during the transition. – Editor

A NEW GENERAL

Congratulations to Barbara Berrigan, KB1NOI, on her recent upgrade to a General license! Barbara initially received her Technician license as a result of the CERT group’s amateur radio operator licensing class conducted last year, and has also recently accepted the position of Club Safety Officer. –Hyrum, KB1KRS

JUNE NET CHECK-IN WINNER

Marc Tremblay, KB1NNX, was the June Net Check-in prizewinner. Marc won a $20 gift certificate to Home Depot that he has donated back to the Club for our use as needed on trailer repairs. Thanks, Marc! – Editor

Please note that the anonymous donor who has been making the prize donations for Net Check-in has decided to discontinue the “monthly” prize idea, and make sporadic prize donations on an unannounced basis. In this way, the donor hopes to maintain enthusiasm for “checking in” while maintaining the prizes and diversifying the period of time to enhance the surprise element. More, or less, than a month, could be involved. So—you just never know when you might be the Net Check-in Prize Winner! Like they say in the lottery: You have to play to win! – Editor

SAFETY AT FIELD DAY

2 I do believe most everyone is now more aware of the safety issues involved in Field Day. Kane showed such maturity and foresight in his approach to his participation on Sat. The example of Chris Myers was good, when lifting a battery he did it with proper technique-----as I commented to him about this he said "Well, I was a safety officer at one time." The dolly used to transport batteries was right on.

I was delighted to see what I thought was a safety conscious approach to our 2007 Field Day. So, thanks to all who took the time to keep safety in mind! –Barbara, KB1NOI, Safety Officer

3 ARRL TRIP

If enough folks are interested, we are planning a car trip to ARRL Headquarters in CT on Monday, July 16th. We would leave at 8:30am, visit ARRL and perhaps operate on W1AW if desired, have lunch and visit the Lentini Communications store before returning in the afternoon. Please call Hyrum or Bill Boutwell if you would like to make this trip so we can determine and arrange the amount of vehicles needed. – Hyrum, KB1KRS
