Savannah College of Art and Design Students Make Super Bowl History: FOX Sports University partners with SCAD’s Collaborative Learning Center to Create Opening Animation for 2014 Television Broadcast

WHAT: The Savannah College of Art and Design brought the disparate worlds of art and football together this fall when FOX Sports, through its FOX Sports University education initiative, enlisted 20 students to concept and design creative elements for the opening animation of the February 2nd Super Bowl XLVIII television broadcast, an event that is likely to be one of the top 10 most-watched programs in history.

The SCAD/FOX Sports collaboration provided the SCAD students with a real-world understanding of how creative graphics and motion transport fans from their couches into the stadium during the annual broadcast event. A project of SCAD’s Collaborative Learning Center (CLC), the FOX Sports University partnership provided a once-in-a-college-career opportunity to students to help prepare them for professional creative careers – a core element of SCAD’s mission. The students earned course credit for the real-world assignment through the CLC.

This is the first time SCAD and FOX Sports University have worked together, and it is also the first time that FOX Sports has had students contribute to Super Bowl motion graphics.

With several SCAD alumni part of the FOX Sports graphics team working on this year’s Super Bowl, network executives understand the quality of education and real-world experience that SCAD students receive.

WHO: 20 undergraduate and graduate students of the Savannah College of Art and Design whose majors include motion media, illustration and animation. Students hail from across the United States and countries around the globe, including Singapore, China, Malaysia, Trinidad & Tobago, Thailand and the Philippines.
