Advanced Search:

1. Enter search terms in empty boxes, top left. 2. Use adjacent drop-down menus to choose the type of search; i.e., author, title, subject, etc. NOTE: “Select a Field” = keyword search 3. If desired, enter additional search terms in other boxes. NOTE: it is not necessary to fill in all boxes. If more boxes are needed, click the “Add Row” link. 4. Use the “and” or “not” drop-down boxes with additional search terms to limit the search; use “or” with additional search terms to expand the search. 5. For full text articles only, check the first box under “Limit your results.” 6. You may place other limits on your search – by published date, type of document, number of pages, and others. 7. Click Search. The Search buttons are found at the top and bottom of the screen. 8. If your search yields few results, try fewer search terms and/or fewer limits. You may also try a different Search Mode – see choices under “Search Options.” 9. For more information, view any of Ebsco’s tutorials at http://support.epnet.com/training/tutorials.php Results List:

1. Learn more about an article by placing the cursor over the Preview icon. 2. The left sidebar contains suggestions to help narrow your search results. Clicking on one of the links will re-formulate your search by adding the selected term. For example, select “Academic Journals” in the sidebar to limit your results to works in scholarly periodicals. Select “RELIGIOUS aspects” to limit results to only that area of interest. 3. If your search yields too many results, you may add more limits by adding or changing limits in the right sidebar. For more options, select the “Search Options” link. 4. To access the complete article, select the Full Text link – either PDF or HTML. 5. Save articles for viewing later by selecting the “Add to folder” link. For more information about using the Folder, see below.

Folders: A folder will allow you to save interesting articles as you browse so you can view them later. Clicking the “Add to folder” link will save the articles in a list you can access from any screen. Select the “Folder View” link in the right sidebar to access items in your folder. Note: Items stored in your folder will not be retained once you close your browser.

Personal Accounts: To save items from session to session, or from one computer to another, you can set up a personal account that will allow you to retain your results over time. Select the “Sign In to My EbscoHost” link at the top of the screen. Select “I’m a new user” from the green toolbar, then submit the information requested. Select your own username and password. (Suggestion: use your DBU login information, so you won’t forget!) Once your account is established, the items in your folder will be saved. Be sure to login whenever you want to save items to your folder, or view items that have already been saved.

Information Formats:  CITATION – author, title, source information only  ABSTRACT – a summary of the article’s contents  FULL TEXT – the complete contents of the article, available in two formats:  HTML: plain text; saves paper; sometimes missing graphics or footnotes  PDF: requires Adobe Acrobat reader; displays exactly as in print; contains graphics, sidebars, footnotes, etc.; may waste paper and ink when printing

Print: 1. If article is in PDF format, use the printer icon in the Adobe Acrobat frame.

2. If article is in HTML format, use the printer icon above the article text.

Other features: 1. E-mail articles – select the envelope icon at the top of the citation or article display. 2. Download articles – select the computer disk icon at the top of the citation or article display.
