Typing French Accents

There are three ways to type accents. One way is to use the Control commands. A second way is to use the ALT codes. A third way is to simply go to Insert Symbol and find the letter with the accent on it. This sheet provides you with the Control commands and ALT codes.

Control Commands  For this method, you will need to hold down the control key (CTRL), along with one more key, let go and type the letter.

ALT Commands  Make sure your number lock is on. Hold ALT and type in the number codes. You must type the numbers with the numeric key pad! When you finish, let go of ALT and your letter appears!

For ALT Commands  Hold down Control Commands  Do this… this… ALT and type the code… Hold CTRL and the apostrophe key á (button next to Enter)  let go, then 160 type a Hold CTRL and the apostrophe key é (button next to Enter) let go, then 130 type e Hold CTRL and the apostrophe key í (button next to Enter) let go, then 161 type i Hold CTRL and the apostrophe key ó (button next to Enter) let go, then 162 type o Hold CTRL and the apostrophe key (button next to Enter) let go, then 163 ú type u

Hold CTRL, Shift and ~ key (button to ñ the left of the 1) let go, then type n 164 ALT Commands  Hold For Control Commands  Do this… this… down ALT and type the code… Hold CTRL, ALT, SHIFT and ? key (button to the right of .) the ¿ will now 0191 ¿ be on your page!

Hold CTRL, ALT, SHIFT and the ! key (the key with 1 on it) the ¡ will now be 0161 ¡ on your page!
