These closed sessions are authorized by the Texas Open Meeting Act, Texas Government Code Section 551.072 and 551.074. A. Personnel. No action or vote may be taken in the closed meeting. An open meeting will be held to consider and take action, if any, on items discussed in closed session.

If during the course of the meeting, discussion of any item on the agenda should be held in a closed meeting, the Board will conduct a closed meeting in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code, Chapter 551, Subchapters D and E. Before any closed meeting is convened, the presiding officer will publicly identify the section or sections of the Act authorizing the closed meeting.

Section 551.071 – For the purpose of a private consultation with the Board’s attorney on any or all subjects or matters authorized by law.

Section 551.072 – For the purpose of discussing the purchase, exchange, lease or value of real property.

Section 551.073 – For the purpose of negotiating contracts for prospective gifts or donations.

Section 551.074 – For the purpose of considering the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment of duties, discipline or dismissal of a public officer or employee or to hear complaints or charges against a public officer or employee.

Section 551.076 – To consider the deployment, or specific occasions for implementation, of security personnel and devices.

Section 551.082 – For the purpose of considering discipline of a public school child or children. Section 551.083 – For the purpose of considering the standard, guidelines, terms or conditions the Board will follow, or instruct its representatives to follow, in consultation with representatives of employee groups in connection with consultation agreements provided for by Section 13.901 of the Texas Education Code.

Section 551.084 – For the purpose of excluding a witness or witnesses from a hearing during examination of another witness.

Should any final action, final decision or final vote be required in the opinion of the Board with regard to any matter considered in such closed meeting, then such final action, final decision or final vote shall be at either:

A. the open meeting covered by this notice upon the reconvening of this public meeting, or

B. at a subsequent public meeting of the Board upon notice thereof, as the Board shall determine.

This notice was posted in compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act at 8:00 a.m., April 13, 2012 (date).

Report cards will go out on April 19, 2012. After our School Board meeting this month there will be only 5 weeks remaining in the current school year. The last day of school will be on Friday, May 25, 2012 and also Graduation for our Seniors will be on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. at the football stadium. Saturday, May 26, 2012 will be a workday for school personnel.

Some future events: April 14 – Prom April 19 - Middle School One Act Play performance – 6:00 p.m. - Cafeteria April 28 – Band Banquet May 7 – Agriculture Banquet May 16 – National Honor Society Installation at 6:00 p.m. May 18 – Agriculture Day Field Trip to Welden Elliott’s Ranch (4th Grade) Faculty Staff Picnic at City Park May 19 – Athletic Banquet May 23 – Senior Trip May 25 – Kindergarten Graduation High School Graduation

District Track Meet was held on April 9th and 11th at Newton for Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys. Please see individual results (Report # 9).

April 9, 2012 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. was our district wide Parental Involvement Night, and our spring book fair was also going on as well.

Varsity Softball’s record is 7 wins, 7 losses, and 1 tie, In District 5 wins and 2 losses. JV Softball’s record is 6 wins, 5 losses, and 1 tie, In District 3 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie.

Varsity Baseball’s record is 13 wins, 10 losses, and 1 tie, In District 6 wins and 2 losses. JV Baseball’s record is 12 wins, 4 losses, In District 2 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie.

2. Construction Project Progress

Goodwin-Lasiter is still working on plans for the new elementary building and renovation. The architect will be present with an updated report at the Special Called Board Meeting on April 16, 2012. 3. School Board Spring Workshop

The annual Spring School Board Workshop will be held at Stephen F. Austin State University on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. The workshop will be held at the University Student Center in the Twilight Ballroom.

4. UIL Academic District Championship

Congratulations to Marc Griffin – Principal, Sherri Eddings – UIL Coordinator, and all personnel who coached the various events. Also congratulations to the many students who participated in the individual and team events competition.

This is the 16th consecutive year that we have won the District Championship.

5. School Budget

We are working on next year’s budget. A Budget Workshop has been scheduled for Monday, April 16, 2012 at 6:00 p.m.

6. Buddy Low Award

Congratulations to Karen Bennett for winning the Buddy Low High School Teachers Award and $ 10,000. She was selected from High School Teachers in Sabine, Angelina, and San Augustine Counties. She will receive her award next month at a banquet in San Augustine.

We appreciate Mr. Low for his interest in our schools and also for the donations he makes to the Sabine Area Career Center each year. The Beaumont Foundation donations are used by SACC to pay tuition for high school students’ dual credit courses and other courses from Angelina College.

7. Hemphill ISD Foundation Dinner

A dinner has been set for Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the Cafeteria for director solicitation. 8. Region 7 ESC School Bus Auction

We do have two buses, old bus 3 and old bus 12 that we could auction off.

1. Recommend approval for renewal of Student Insurance.

Recommend renewal of Student Insurance covering all Interscholastic Athletics and Activities with East Texas Insurance Association in Bryan, Texas for a premium of $ 28,135.00 ( a decrease of $ 1,542.58)

2. Recommend approval of student overnight trip requests.

Bill and Jean Ann Whittington are making a $ 500.00 donation for middle school and elementary school student’s books to be purchased. This will be the last year for the Temple Inland matching grant contribution. We truly appreciate Bill and Jean Ann Whittington for making these donations all of these years to purchase books for our students.
