Here’s what we know about the RELIGIOUS conflict in our novel: Three different groups of people live in this region and practice different religions. The main religions of the characters Judaism, Islam and Christianity.

Here’s what we know about the POLITICAL conflict in our novel: Palestinians and Israelis each want sole ownership of the land that is currently Israel. They have been fighting over this land for hundreds of years. There is hostility in the region because of this.

Here’s what we know about the CULTURAL conflict in our novel: Each family in the novel has specific traditions and a specific way of life. They all co-exist somewhat peacefully in the area, but for the most part remain separate from each other.

The critical lens we have the most information on and that we feel most confident using is: ______POLITICS______

So we can summarize by saying the ______POLITICAL______conflict is mainly about:

Two groups of people who are fighting for control over one piece of land.

Other places in the world (either now or in the past) where a similar conflict has occurred include: 1. Native Americans fighting for their land that was taken from them by US settlers

2. Mexico fighting the Republic of Texas for control over what is now modern day Texas

3. American Revolution fighting for ownership of the colonies and freedom from Britain’s rule. Name______Date______

After doing research at home, we’ve decided that the conflict we want to focus on (the one we have the MOST information on as well) is: _____ Mexican-American War in 1846______

Some specific ways the two conflicts are similar: (bullet these)

 Two groups who each lay claim to a specific piece of land

 Physical fighting and violence ensued

 A solution was reached. Land was given to a specific group, and animosity continues.

Some specific ways the two conflicts differ: (bullet these)

Patterns we see between the two: (bullet these)

 Debates over land lead to violence and wars  “Solving” the conflict by giving awarding one side the land is not a solution that both sides are happy with  As a result, hostility and animosity remain between the 2 groups, and future violence is always a possibility. Name______Date______
