Regional Telecommunications Review - Short Online Submissions

Chapter 1: How does demand for telecommunications services inform the Review? Please comment on how your reliance on telecommunications in regional Australia differs from urban areas.

It is very important to have better contact. The services in this area are basically a duopoly between Telstra and OPTUS. There are also a few smaller players using the network of these to providers.

Chapter 2: How are telecommunications services in regional, rural and remote Australia delivered? Please comment on the delivery of services for example over fixed networks, mobile networks or satellite.

Home phone I switched from Telstra to DODOndue to high cost and lessor value for money for services provided. Although, DODO was using the same network of Teslstra, from the day I started DODO the internet is much slower than, Telstra. Brought to DODO's attention several times. Nothing constructively happened so far.

I also use an OPTUS mobile phone transferred from Brisbane a few years back. Added two more mobile no.s for son and daughter. The service as deteriorated within the last 1-2 years. A person who tries to contact us gets diverted to voice mail. In side the Nambucca Heads house, the signal strength is around 1 bar only. The house is mere 1Km away from town and about 750 M away from Pacific Highway only. When trying to open Apps to read news and email, it is very slow.

Chapter 3: How are services being used in regional, rural and remote Australia? Please comment on how telecommunication services are being used for example, interacting with government, education, health or running a business.

I use internet extensively for almost all the transactions. My and wife's tax returns, lodged through eTax. I have a MyGov account and Centrelink, Medicare and ATO is linked. Where ever possible, all communications are received in email form. I use phone constantly to keep track of mails, although I cant open attachments using the phone due to the slow speed of internet

Chapter 4: Consumer safeguards Please provide your views on current consumer safeguards and what should be considered in the future.

I think there is no properly informed mechanism is placed to get the consumer feed back. I heard about these submissions accidentally, when listening to ABC evening radio.

Me or wife do not use the home phone broad band after kids come from school. In the evenings, it is so badly slow, if we start using the internet, kids can't do their home work.
