Jeff Emhof expanded on last month’s positive news regarding Lonni Sue Johnson, a former Otsego Manor rehabilitation patient. He presented a video that is included in an exhibit titled “Puzzles of the Brain – An Artist’s Journey through Amnesia” at Walters Art Museum in Baltimore. The exhibit features her art works from before and after her illness. The video features Ms. Johnson as the subject of John Hopkins University research. Dolly Carman distributed the Bid Tally Sheet for Medical Supplies 10/24/2011. She stated that the bids cover the medical supplies that would be purchased by Otsego Manor, Public Health Nursing, Child Advocacy Center, and the Sheriff’s department. She requested approval that the lowest bids be accepted and awarded. Representative Fournier moved for approval. Seconded, Stuligross. Total: 4; Ayes: 3; Vacant: 1. Motion carried. Jeff Emhof distributed the monthly expense and revenue reports. It was stated that expenses are at 73.27% of the 2011 budget and are on track to be less than $13 million.

Mary Reitz stated that three estimates per job are needed in order to use Medicaid money. Representative Lindberg suggested the committee discuss change to that process to streamline hourly bids for professional services (i.e. plumber, electrician). Mr. Marchi stated that he would discuss this with other department heads who are involved and possibly bring a request to the table in the future.

Mr. Marchi stated that he is the treasurer of a statewide organization that is seeking a $150,000 grant to create a tool for counties to use to help guide them through the decision process of whether to sell their county owned nursing home facility. He further stated that the tool would be created based on an independent study and that use of the tool would keep the process neutral. Mr. Marchi said that if the grant is received he expects the tool could be ready for use in June or July.
