Give any individual you request a letter of recommendation from at least two school weeks (excluding holidays) to complete it. Teachers are the best source for college admission recommendations as they know you best in both academic performance and personal behavior. The application instructions will guide you as to whom you should request recommendations. If it doesn’t, contact the admissions office of your target school and ask if they accept letters of recommendation. 2. Materials & information to provide the person(s) you are asking + other tips. a. Extended resume (see attachment) b. Any recommendation forms from the application c. If generic letters are ok, let the person know this. d. Complete school names which you are requesting a recommendation. e. Deadline for recommendation to be completed. Again, give at least two weeks for person to complete and consider mailing time etc., if it’s not done on-line. f. Normally, the student will not “view” the letter contents. The recommending person will send the letter through Naviance or you can pick up and mail yourself. g. If a recommendation form asks you whether you want to waive your rights to view the letter written by the recommending person, you should do so. Someone who agrees to write you a letter of recommendation is going to write an honest and supportive letter that promotes you…so trust them. Requesting Transcripts & Official Documents:
Official Transcript requests must be made in the Registrar’s Office (main office suite). It is very important that you plan ahead and give the personnel in the registrar’s office several days to prepare this for you. Remember: Mrs. Burnham and Mrs. Free serve the entire student body and have a multitude of responsibilities. It’s not appropriate to come to their office and request official documents for that same day. They are aware that unforeseen situations arise and will work with you when they do. Avoiding procrastination and planning ahead will serve you well the rest of your life. Always be considerate of other’s time when requesting letters of recommendation, transcripts and other official documents. Remember, you are requesting, not demanding. Be respectful and you will be treated with the same respect. Tips & Etiquette
