3. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT – DAVID GYVES Chairman’s Address AmecFWGS 2016

In the absence of the chairman David Gyves provided a report. It was noted that the events had been successfully organised, and none were rained off last year. He thanked

all the committee members for their hard work especially noting that the committee had been much reduced in numbers and as a consequence the event organisers had to book and organise the events. It was noted that whilst numbers were down no event was cancelled due to lack of numbers and the GIRLS continue to attend events in force keeping the society events well attended. The courses chosen for 2016 were generally well liked. There was concern that Goring allowed us to play when visibility was poor. Despite the efforts of Kate, we haven’t been successful in expanding the membership to include persons from the elements of legacy Amec now in Shinfield Park although we will continue to try.

Thanks to everyone who organised events including those co-opted at the eleventh hour.

Whilst golf is a sport in decline, hopefully we can retain a similar membership to last year, continue to play on some high quality courses and have a successful golf in 2017. Individual committee members who organised events last year also had to book the event in advance. This practice worked well and will continue into 2017.

Thanks once again to all those who worked so hard last year to ensure successful events and we look forward to more enjoyable society days in 2017.

4. TREASURER’S REPORT – ANDREW GREEN

The grant level is likely to in line with the request of the society

5. SECRETARY’S REPORT – PAUL BROWN

The membership dropped marginally from 44 in 2015 to 38 in 2016.

Only 11 people participated in the Knockout

The attendances at the 2016 events were as follows:

Event 2015 2016 Williams Tankard 18 14 Corlett Shield 21 15 Austin Cup 18 16 Newbold/Spry 17 19 Sheasby 15 12 Wass 17 20 Spicer 19 12 Glen Jones 22 20 Knockout 20 11

This gave an average of 16 players per event, down from 18.4 in 2015.

It was an excellent year with no events being adversely affected by the weather. However, refer to the chairman’s comment on the Xmas event held at Goring.

The Role of Honour showing the winners and runners up in the competitions is attached.

All trophies will be engraved in 2017 and hopefully before the first event.

The arrangement of lessons is currently not justified due to lack of interest.

Thanks to Mr Ian Bishop (Head GIRL) for his continued (and we hope future) support in maintaining the members’ handicaps and for the production of the GIRLS website.

Special thanks to all retirees who have supported the events as you represent approx. 50% of the turnout.

The 2017 membership forms will be issued during Feb/March.

Although not included by the chairman I will finish by mentioning Only Fools & Horses, the Andrews Sisters and PG Wodehouse (who fell off the list) to provide a level of

comfort for those longer serving members, and to provide an air of mystery, if not insanity, to the newer ones…………
