The 3rd Annual #DRAWFASHION awards 2017
BACKGROUND
#DRAWFASHION is London College of Fashion's annual fashion illustration competition open to all students in the UK.
#DRAWFASHION is the concept of artist and Creative Director Rob Phillips. ‘I wanted to create a project that ultimately promotes and advances drawing, encourages observation, plays with abstraction, acts an outlet of emotion, and in some way shape or form constructs and communicates identity’.
#DRAWFASHION celebrates the deeply analytical and emotive skills of drawing and fashion illustration, art forms that capture the wonder of the fashioned body. The competition encourages students to explore their fashion design practice through observation, abstract thinking, traditional and digital drawing techniques and other mediums that drawing has been used in the process of development, such as ceramics, metalwork tapestry and beyond.
'Through drawing we can move design; personify style, mood, identity and feeling; make a statement; progress traditions and construct new worlds to push fashion forward'says Rob Phillips, Creative Director, School of Design & Technology.
London College of Fashion is proud to announce that #DRAWFASHION is supported by the UK’s leading independent art supplies retailer, Cass Art. They will be supporting the award with a £1000 prize divided over the three final winners.
Cass Art have been putting high quality drawing materials in the hands of artists aged 3 to 103 for 30 years. They will be supporting the award with a £1000 prize divided over the three final winners.
BE BRAVE, GO BEYOND!
This year we want to push #DRAWFASHION even further.
Drawing is a fundamental part of any design or art based practice regardless of the outcome.
From pens to paint, markers to cutting, clay to customization; Drawing can be the most creative and artistic statements.
The #DrawFashion 2017 competition encourages a vast use of mediasin order to create a visual ‘fashion relative’ moment, regardless of the materials being used. As long as drawing is in the process and the outcome it’s all Drawing!
In short whatever your surface, draw, draw and draw more. Whether you sculpt or sew, knit or carve, paint or plant, push Drawing further!
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS & PROCESS.
Who can enter? / The competition is open to all individuals enrolled on a full-time degree course in the UK and aged 18 years or over.
Requirements / All the work must be original and created by you. You must have an Instagram account.
THE PROCESS IS VERY SIMPLE.
PART 1 – ENTRY
#DrawFashion is open for entries between Tuesday 11th April 2017, closing on Monday July 3rd 2017 at 1200hrs.
To enter first email three fashion drawings / fashion illustrations / or fashion works of art examples in one PDF file no bigger than 9mb to [email protected] between the opening and closing dates above. In the PDF please be sure to send detailed images (close ups) of the works that clearly show media quality and texture if applicable, as well as images of the full piece of work. Please also include the titles of the work, the dimensions and media used.
Then we ask that all students entering the competition to upload their three, in full (not cropped), final pieces of work onto Instagram using the hashtag #DRAWFASHION @CassArtLondon again by the closing date - Monday July 3rd 2017 by 1200hrs.
PART 2 – JUDGING AND SELECTION
From the emails and instagram entries a panel of judges will make a selection of work to go through to an event / exhibition to be held during London Fashion Week, September 2017 where also the winners of #DRAWFASHION 2017 will be announced.
The criteria for selection is simple: The panel will be looking for dynamic and contemporary fashion drawings that push the practice forward. Skill, observation, technique, abstraction, media type, composition, diversity and statement are key factors we are looking for. Students should consider subject and subject matter, media, line, technique, colors, graphics, composition, scale, paper quality, materials, presentation in reality and digital. The key to success is to find a new and exciting visual voice that enriches and progresses the art of fashion drawing.
By the end of July, successfully selected students will be emailed directly with full Instructions on how and when to deliver the physical work to us and the dates, times and locations of the final event.
Note: Due to the high volume of entries no feedback is available for unsuccessful entries.
Remember the deadline for all entries is is Monday July 3rd 2017 by 1200hrs.
