Cooksville Creek School Council Agenda December 11th 2012

Meeting Began at 6:00 PM

1. Welcome and sign in. 2. Approval of Minutes - Rashda Malik 3. Principal Report: 1. Report on Labour update - Letters sent home, Synervoice messages received by parents - Known information given  72 hour notice will be given (1 day strike)  School will be closed on day of strike  Currently no extracurricular activity  Creative Arts program continues  Martial arts program will begin in the new year  Clarification there are 3 groups of staff at school, only teachers are a part of ETFO. Secretarial staff, custodial staff and Administration are not in the ETFO union. b. Educating 21st century learners.  WIFI is coming to Cooksville Creek Netbook, iPads, etc. February 2013  PFLC is coming to Cooksville Creek January 15 2013 c. Peace Tree was a big success the students really loved it d. RAZ Kids – (now licensed) will be starting for students to access e. Lost and found reminder please look to see if things belong to your family they will be donated January 14

4. Update on School Council Orientation night held on November 29th, 2012 a. Mental health –Marina Johnson - Review of mental health session - 5 counselors paid for by the school board - Staff has seen the package and YouTube video “Stand Up Peel Schools” http://www.peelschools.org/standup - Stand Up T-Shirts shown will be on sale second week in January b. Bring your own devices – Sarah Baptist - Review of BYOD Session - Results in a positive change in the students - Opportunity to go to another school and see how it works

5. Review Other Items: (from last meeting) A. Cookies, Licks, Extreme Pita - Cookies - $650 profit to date - Licks - $150 profit to date - Next Licks Day - Jan 18 - Thank you to Extreme Pita for donating a selection of Pitas to sample. B. Help needed - Forms for Food orders - Counting and sorting and driving. - Rashda and Marina offer to volunteer for this month - Next month looking for others to sign-up C. New Fundraising - chocolates? (Nut free option available) - cultural bake sale – Samosas, patties, spring roles, etc. D. Community Connection Ideas: a. Movie Night - Waiting for clarification b. Valentines - Flowers idea E. Non-teaching staff voting council member - Vote taken to allow Zareen Latafat to be a non-teaching staff voting council member - Vote passed F.
