4 BEDFORD HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT OF ATHLETICS / STUDENT ACTIVITIES
Student participation in athletics and extracurricular activities is a vital component to a student’s overall high school experience. All students who choose to participate in any activity or sport are bound by rules and regulations of Bedford High School, and are expected to use sound judgment, ethical behavior, good sportsmanship and integrity at all times.
COMMON RULES FOR ALL ACTIVITIES AND ATHLETIC TEAMS IN SEASON
The use of tobacco products, illegal drugs, or drinking of alcoholic beverages is prohibited. No disrespect, insubordination or refusal to follow team/activity rules or regulations will be allowed. All participants shall conduct themselves in a sportsmanship manner during the school day. All participants must be in school at least 1/2 the day of the contest to be eligible to participate. Any participant who is suspended (out of school) may not participate in the sport or activity for the duration of the suspension. (Participation will begin the day that the student returns to school.)
ELIGIBILITY
A student’s athletic and activity eligibility will be based on the previous nine week grading period and Bedford Board of Education policy. Students must have:
A 2.00 GPA in the grading period preceding participation. All Ohio High School Athletic Association rules do apply. (At Bedford High School this includes the passage of five units of credit prior to the time of participation)
Students may regain eligibility at the midterm mark of the grade period of eligibility (Note: calamity days are included.) At the time, the student must be passing at least 5 units of credit, and have at least a 2.00 GPA. Eligibility may be regained as soon as calculations verify qualification. NOTE: If the participant did not pass 5 CREDITS in the preceding grade period, ineligibility will last for the entire grade period.
REMOVAL FROM EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Extracurricular activities are just that – EXTRA. As such, participation in these activities is a PRIVILEGE, not a right. Students who fail to take seriously the responsibility of displaying appropriate behavior may be denied the opportunity to participate in or be in attendance at any or all-extracurricular activities (home or away). These include, but are not limited to: athletic activities, school functions such as plays, dances, assemblies, talent showcases, performances, concerts, school bus transportation, prom activities and commencement exercises. All participants of extracurricular activities fall under the jurisdiction of the Bedford City School District Student Code of Conduct and must abide by the rules and guidelines stated therein.
