Letter to your Congressman requesting Co-sponsor

The Honorable ______United States House of Representatives ______House Office Building Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Representative ______:

On behalf of the (your company name here), I am writing to urge you to co-sponsor the Pittman-Robertson Modernization Act (H.R. 4818) that was introduced by Representatives Duncan, Walz, Wittman and Green. Through the payment of excise taxes on firearms, ammunition and archery equipment pursuant to the Pittman-Robertson Act, the archery, firearms and ammunition industries have contributed $9.2 billion over the last eight decades. This funding is made available to state wildlife agencies to support wildlife conservation efforts that have benefited both game and nongame wildlife across the nation. This American System of Conservation Funding (a “user-pay / public- benefit” funding strategy) is in jeopardy. Population growth and related development have severely reduced easily accessible places to hunt and recreationally shoot. Additionally, the continued aging of the American hunter population is likely to lead to a dramatic decline in hunter numbers over the next decade. Since our industry is built around the hunting and recreational shooting community, any decline in participation will result in similar declines in the industry. The proposed modernization of the Pittman-Robertson Act will allow state wildlife agencies to increase their emphasis on enhancing hunter and recreational shooter access and on the recruitment of new hunters and recreational shooters. Providing state wildlife agencies the authority to use Pittman-Robertson funds to offer your constituents increased opportunities for hunting and recreational shooting will ensure the health of our industry and will maintain the funding mechanism established by the Act to support wildlife conservation for all Americans. We hope you will join this effort. To co-sponsor the legislation, please contact Dave Jackson in Rep. Duncan’s office ([email protected], x: 5-5301) or Ben Jackson in Rep. Green’s office ([email protected], x: 5-1688). Thank you for your support of wildlife conservation, and know that you have our support in this important initiative. Sincerely,

Letter to your Senator requesting Co-Sponsor
