Significance and cross-center collaboration (1 page)  Document tobacco regulatory science priority(ies) that application addresses.  Significance to inform the regulation of tobacco products to protect public health.  What OSU-CERTS projects, infrastructures, cores, biospecimens or data will be used. If none, justify.  If cross-center collaboration – specific these activities and how project will build a sustainable infrastructure for ongoing collaborations. Approach (4 pages)  Background  Feasibility – of developing the pilot; role of each investigator; junior faculty and postdoctoral fellows identify research mentor  Study design, research methods, data collection, protocols and analysis plan (OSU-CERTS Biostatistics and Data Resource Core should be used unless adequate justification.)  Describe how results provide preliminary data for R-type grant or equivalent (name targeted funding mechanism). Describe deliverables.

Qualifications of PI(s):

Budget and budget justification (not included in the 6-page limit): Two awards at $45,000 for 8-12 month project Three awards at $20,000 for 8-12 month project.

Allowable Costs:  Salary and fringe support for administrative assistance, students, graduate students, clinical trainees, post-doctoral and clinical fellows.  Supplies  Travel when enhancing project progress  Costs for OSU-CERTS cores, if expenses are additional to funded core activities. Costs not permitted:  Research infrastructure expenses – as these are expected to be provided by the department/college  Salary support for investigators  Indirect costs
