The youth are also working on planning the H.A.L.T. conference on April 9 at LVTI. Elements will include resource tables, a pizza contest, teen led workshops, speakers and performers (TBA) and a dance. They are currently looking for people interested in having a resource table. The next planning meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday, March 30 at 3:30 at Girls Inc 2. Catherine provided a brief update on additional youth activities, including the teens going to the State House today with Cassie and Harry to lobby regarding tobacco prevention. She also provided an update on the Prom Parent Initiative, with the first session held at Classical this past Monday. Approximately 150 to 175 parents attended (more than last year). The streamlined presentation was well received by parents. The event at Lynn Tech is scheduled for tonight and at English on Monday. About $7200 was raised through donations and raffles to cover event expenses. Overall, attendance is expected to exceed that of last year. 3. Wendy provided an updated on MassCALL2: We are in the process of applying for continuation funding for a fourth year. The upcoming physicians training in June is moving forward. We will be able to collect data six months after the training to be able to identify changes in prescribing patterns which will allow us to identify final training needs and areas in need of attention. First responder training will also be an increased focus next year. We are also waiting for final word on additional funding for the prescription drug disposal program. 4. MaryAnn reported on the obesity prevention initiative. Work is being done on the new RFP from the education department. In addition, the needs assessment for the city has been completed and priorities are being identified.

Announcements 1. Wendy Joseph reported on the New Lynn Coalition focusing on the Highlands and based out of the North Shore Labor Union. They have a meeting/training scheduled for April 9 (unfortunately the same day as the H.A.L.T. conference) and are looking for youth interested in doing community outreach. 2. They are currently looking for people interested in making statements as survivors as part of an exhibit. They are also wrapping up a PSA produced in conjunction with Girls Inc. 3. (Flyer attached with meeting notes) 5. Catherine reported that U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz will be coming to Girls Inc next week to meet with the P.O.S. youth. Last week’s planned visit by Gil Kerlikowski was disrupted by his inability to attend due to illness, but BSAS Director Michael Botticelli and other visitors did attend as planned, viewed a presentation by the P.O.S. youth and participated in a post presentation discussion about prevention activities in Lynn. 6. Attendance is free for coalition members. The deadline for registration is April 1. Interested individuals can register at www.nc4hc.org 7. Peter Alexander reported on an upcoming fundraising event at the Lazy Dog Restaurant in Wyoma Square this Sunday to benefit Cops for Kids with Cancer. 10% of meal sales between 2pm and 8pm will be donated to the charity.

Annual meeting The annual year-end celebration event has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 25, 2011 and will be held at Girls Inc. We will be requesting catering from Olde Thyme Italian restaurant (the location of last year’s event) and will include a keynote speaker and community awards. The presentation will focus more on the new directions and initiatives of the CTC.

The remainder of the meeting was devoted to breakout sessions for the Teen Suicide, Teen Violence, and Teen Pregnancy subcommittees. Each of the groups had the opportunity to take a preliminary look at the data that has been compiled over the past few months, including YRBS data, other available data, and key stakeholder interviews. Members were being asked to further review the data on their own between now and the next meeting on April 27 and be prepared to review the data in greater detail and begin to narrow down areas of priority. The subcommittees will continue to meet over the summer months to work on strategic plans, with support from the Executive Committee who will begin to investigate funding possibilities.

Subcommittee notes are included as a separate attachment.

The next general CTC coalition meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 11:30 am at the Community Room at LHA, 10 Church Street, Lynn.
