MINUTES OF THE MAY 21, 2012 MEETING Sue Cannon called the meeting to order at 7:05 P.M.

MEMBER’S PRESENT: Sue Cannon, Chairman, William Hamel, Edward Lanati, Gary McGuire, Roger Nelson, Barbara Sullivan, and Frances Urbank.

ABSENT: Rosemary Hogan-Cunningham, Vice Chairman, and David Yellen.

ALSO PRESENT: Ann Marie Claffey, Director, and John Sullivan, Municipal Agent.

PUBLIC: None.

Sue Cannon announced David Yellen has resigned from the CONA Board.

SECRETARY’S REPORT: Upon a motion by Frances Urbank, and seconded by Gary McGuire; the April 16, 2012 report was approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the Treasurer’s Report provided by the Finance Dept. Discussion followed on account financial information. Upon a motion by Frances Urbank to accept the treasurers/ financial report figures as presented, seconded by Roger Nelson, the report was accepted.

PUBLIC INPUT: None.

BUS COORDINATOR’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the April 2012 report. Frances Urbank asked about the Sure Step. After a discussion on ridership and drivers, Barbara Sullivan made a motion to accept the Bus Coordinator’s Report, seconded by Edward Lanati, the report was accepted.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the Director’s Report.  Programs and events include: “Ask your CPA” with Jack Walsh, Line Dance Party, Wax Removal, Mature Driver Safety Program, and Diabetes Workshop. Locks Fitness Center had approximately 247 visits.  Chartered Trips include: Casino trips to Foxwoods and Mohegan, Washington DC, Lobster Feast Log Cabin, Rock Cats Game, Green Mountain, VT, Long Island Wine Country, Ride the Rails Newport RI, Jonah, Wrights Mill Farm, Pumpkin Festival Keene NH, Planet & Space Museum, NYC, Vienna Boys Choir, 9/11 Memorial & Radio City Christmas Show. Center Trip: Scott Haney “Better CT Show”.  Anniversary Open House for our 35th year is being planned for September or October.

COMMITTEE REPORT AND ACTIONS: a) Transportation Committee: N/A. b) Community Outreach Committee: N/A. CONA MINUTES MAY 21, 2012 PAGE 2

MUNICIPAL AGENT REPORT: John Sullivan reported the May SCAN issue will have information on the Charter Oak Pass. The June SCAN will have a review of “The Healer Within” by Sharon O’Brien. The July SCAN will have information on car buying programs from Costco and BJ’s and the participating dealerships.

OLD BUSINESS: a) Rental Policy: The rental fee is now $75 per use. After a discussion by the board concerning the increase use of the center with rentals, increase of utilities usage, furniture replacement, increase in maintenance of building and its supplies. Gary McGuire made a motion to increase the rental fees as: four hour maximum at $150, any additional hours - $75 per hour, kitchen use - $50, security deposit - $150, monitor to be paid $50 per event, weekly renters will give a deposit expended as necessary and replaced by renter as necessary, seconded by Barbara Sullivan; the motion was accepted unanimously.

NEW BUSINESS: a) ITN America: Ann Marie Claffey reported that ITN, Independent Transportation Network requested a donation from CONA to support this nonprofit transportation service for seniors. After a brief discussion, a motion was made by Frances Urbank to table the discussion until next month, seconded by Gary McGuire, the motion was accepted.

ADJOURNMENT: Upon a motion by Edward Lanati, and seconded by Roger Nelson, the meeting was adjourned at 8:20 P.M.
