Thank you for contacting The Counseling Center at McLean Bible Church to inquire about our counseling services. The Counseling Center offers fee-for-service counseling and our professional clinicians work from models integrating effective counseling strategies with Biblical truth.

Christian counseling encourages spiritual growth and emotional healing while assisting people in developing a closer relationship with God and others. On-site counselors are available for daytime and evening appointments and generally there is a one to two week wait for an appointment. We are not able to accept walk-in appointments or requests for appointments on the same day.

The Process You may begin the process by completing and returning the attached intake form by email to ([email protected]) or fax (703-770-3836).

When completing your intake form please note the following:

Our counselors participate with most BlueCross/BlueShield PPO plans (not HMO).

We do not bill insurance for marriage or couples counseling.

If you observe that our clinicians do NOT participate with your insurance provider, please be sure to include a notation if you would like to meet with one of the licensed or one of the unlicensed counselors (whose fees are significantly lower).

If using insurance please send us an ENLARGED copy of your insurance card (front and back) when you return the intake form.

Please answer all information on the intake form completely, including medication information. If all information is not provided, it will delay the processing of your request.

After the receipt of your completed form, your counselor will contact you to arrange for an appointment time.

Licensed Counselors, Clinical Social Workers and Clinical Psychologists

If our licensed counselors do NOT participate with your insurance company then the following fees apply:

The cost for an initial assessment is $165 ($190 for psychologist). The cost for a regular follow-up session is $130 ($170 for psychologist). All appointment lengths are approximately 50 minutes. Some counselors may utilize a longer session for marriage work – the cost will vary accordingly.

Partial reimbursement by your medical insurance may be available and we will gladly provide you with receipts which you can submit to your company.

Prior to the first appointment, it is the responsibility of each client to contact the insurance company to determine their mental health benefits.

Insurance companies with which we participate:

Blue Cross Blue Shield Gail Thompson, Gayle Bradley Starkes, Mary Ann Morgan, Dawn Zimmerman and Dr. Medcalf are all preferred providers with Anthem and Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield plans. Gail, Mary Ann, Dawn and Dr. Medcalf are preferred with most other Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO plans.

Tricare Mary Ann Morgan is an out-of-network provider for Tricare. This means that you must pay the full fee at the time of the session ($165 for the first visit and $109 for follow-ups) and then submit to Tricare for your reimbursement.

Unlicensed Counselors

We have several unlicensed counselors on staff and they are able to work with some, but not all, situations.

Please note that you will not be reimbursed by your insurance company for sessions with an unlicensed counselor, although we will provide you with receipts if you ask.

The fee for unlicensed counselors ranges from $60 to $95 for a regular 50 minute session for individual work, depending upon who you see. The initial meeting is from $75 to $115 and is typically 75 minutes in length. This may be a good option for you if you do not have medical insurance to help cover the costs of counseling, or if you do not want to use your insurance.

Payment and Missed Appointments

Cash, check or credit card payment is due at the time of the appointment

You will be charged the full fee for a missed or canceled appointment unless you directly notify your counselor at least 24 business hours in advance of the scheduled appointment time.
