Victorian England Oral Group Presentation

Poet Research & Biographical Sketch Project

You will research a poet, write a short biographical sketch of the poet’s life, and present from 4 – 6 poems produced by your poet. Your group will present your findings to the class in an informative, creative, and interesting manner. A Power Point presentation is mandatory and will serve as your lesson plan.

Include the following in your biographical sketch: 1) Poet’s date of birth and death, if applicable 2) Poet’s country, family background, early education, and childhood. Are there any significant events that influenced or are reflected in his/her poetry? 3) The names of at least two volumes of the poet’s work. 4) General information on the poet’s general subjects, themes, writing style, & literary techniques. Which writing movement is the poet associated with? What is/are the poet’s recognized accomplishments?

The Power Point will contain your biographical sketch. All sources should be cited appropriately in a bibliography using MLA Format. All poems used must be attached. The bibliography and poems do not count against the number of pages. Your group presentation should be from 20 - 25 minutes long. Stay close to the time limits; being too brief or too long will affect your grade. Also, it will include from 4 – 6 poems as examples to illustrate elements from the biographical information and be able to briefly discuss them and point out notable features regarding style and technique. The number of poems will vary depending on their length. All members of your group must participate in both the planning and the presentation. Your presentation will be worth a total of 125 points. All members will receive the same grade. If a member of the group does not participate, I reserve the right to deduct points from the grade for non-participation. I suggest placing your Power Point on Google Drive so everyone has access to add and edit. Also, you can use your Ipads for notes or other items such as Youtubes during your presentation. They can be shown on the Smart Board using Apple TV.

The project is worth 125 points and will be scored as follows:

Presentation style – 20 pts Uniqueness, keeping the audiences attention, extras Presentation mechanics - 25 pts Volume, voice, organization, clarity Materials presented - 40 pts Actual information covered, including the breadth, depth and quality of the information presented Biographical sketch/Power Point – 40 pts Power Point – easy to read, visuals, formatting, interesting to audience.
