EL CAMINO COLLEGE COMPTON CENTER DEAN OF VOCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION (Position reopened)

ABOUT THE POSITION Under the direction of the Provost/CEO, the Dean, Vocational Technology Education will provide overall leadership in planning, directing, administering, monitoring and evaluating vocational technology educational services and programs. The areas of responsibilities include providing leadership in the implementation of vocational technology educational services and programs; developing and implementing vocational technology educational programs that meet the diverse needs of the students, the needs of the job market and the communities; planning, developing, recommending, and implementing vocational technology educational policies and procedures; assuring compliance with District, state and federal regulations; assigning qualified instructional personnel; and supervising and evaluating the performance of assigned instructional and support personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES  Develop and recommend to the Provost/CEO the vocational technology educational plan under Vocational Technical Education Act (VTEA) guidelines.  Assist the Provost/CEO in the resolution of student and faculty concerns related to instruction and career education and workforce development.  Implement and supervise the special projects in support of vocational and technology educational program development efforts in coordination with appropriate personnel and other specially funded projects such as worker retraining programs (CalWORKs, GAIN, TANF, Tech-Prep, Private Industry Council (PIC) and Workplace Education).  Develop, implement and monitor all activities and marketing materials focusing on student recruitment in vocational technology education and in conjunction with federal and state guidelines for special populations.  Be responsible for supervision of the Career Center and job development activities.  Develop and coordinate the District’s articulation of vocational technology education activities related to middle/high schools, local industry and the regional occupation centers in the service area.  Develop partnerships with public and private agencies for purposes of enhancing the District’s participation and service through vocational education programs.  Develop and administer the budget for all areas of responsibility.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE  Master’s degree from an accredited institution  Three years of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment  Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS  Earned doctorate from an accredited institution  Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective programs and services in a collegial atmosphere.  Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills

SALARY RANGE $95,266 - $122,020 annually.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT This is a full-time, 12-month certificated management position with the Compton Community College District. Employment is dependent upon satisfactory employment verification, fingerprint check, and tuberculosis examination. The selected candidate must provide identification and work authorization. WORKING CONDITIONS  Travel within and outside of the District in performing responsibilities and functions.  Work under tight deadlines.

ABOUT EL CAMINO COLLEGE COMPTON COMMUNITY EDUCATIONAL CENTER

El Camino Community College District became the partner district to Compton Community College District in August of 2006. Under agreement with El Camino College, the El Camino Compton Community Educational Center provides accredited instructional and student support services to our students in partnership with and on behalf of the Compton Community College District.

The 83-acre campus is located on Artesia Boulevard, just north of the Artesia freeway and west of the Long Beach freeway. The Compton Community College District continues to serve the communities of Compton, Carson, Lynwood, North Long Beach, Paramount and Willowbrook. The District has been a viable part of the community since 1927.

The Compton Center is a welcoming, learning community in which the campus as a whole collaborates to serve and assist students in pursuit of their respective goals. It serves as an integrated cultural Mecca, and functions in a unified fashion so that all current and prospective students receive consistent messages regarding the importance of learning and our commitment to assist them in achieving their learning objectives.
